Yeah the diff seals are designed to keep oil in, not keep water out. The oil should be changed at the next opportunity after sinking the diffsOriginally Posted by PoorManXj

Can someone confirm that this flange thing (angle grinder took a love bite out of it) is part of the ball joint and not the axle?Quote:
Any XJ NP231J will be a very easy swap. Just match up the input gear, change tail cone if required. Old ones may pose an obstacle with the vac switch. Originally Posted by tuff99

Jeep seems to be cranking longer than usual before starting. Typically after sitting a while. If it was the starter it'd be more consistent right?

Maybe. Check starter and battery to start. Sluggish start or turns over fast just doesn't fire for a sec or two?Originally Posted by DieselD

Maybe. VC leaking oil into it could do it. Originally Posted by DieselD

Prime suspect is check valve. Do the poor man's prime.

Sluggish starts I think. Fires right up when it turns over. Let's see if I can explain it. Lol.Originally Posted by bheath

Normal start:
Key turns, chugga chugga, starts
What it does sometimes now:
Key turns, chugga chugga chugga chugga chugga, starts

Very well could be oil on it, the thing is black, and I suspect it's original. Originally Posted by salad

What exactly does the second part mean? Lol. Poor man's prime? Check valve? The check valve on the brake booster?
It's a 99 btw guys forgot to include that.
Newbie
Okay, so I'm new to the Jeep community. I just purchased a 1990 Jeep cherokee. Ran awesome when I test drove it, started right up, purchased it, went to move it out of my driveway, and it wouldnt start. unfortunately we dont have a lemon law in South Dakota. the headlights, bells and whistles, all that turn on fine, battery is getting roughly 13-14 volts (I'm assuming) but when I turn the key nothing...We thought maybe the starter, so I replaced that yesterday, and still...nothing. I've been reading alot about NSS, and maybe alternator? (not too mechanically inclined) I'm going to check the feed from the starter to the ignition manifold tonight just to make sure, but any help would be appreciated. I bought a lemon, and this sucker needs to run.
