Default '99 Cherokee Sport / Front Seats & Windshield Wipers

I purchased my first Cherokee Sport in '94, and my second in '99, over 200K and still going strong!

A couple questions for those who might know:

My front seats have never been able to fold down forward, they only slide forward. Is that how they were designed?
Always found it cumbersome when trying to add more room or for sleeping in back.

And curious why my windshield wipers would never fold back?
It can be handy when cleaning windshield or in snow conditions when you don't won't wipers to freeze to windshield, and for scraping off ice.

Thanks

Default Fuel Trim

My wife's 99 4x4 Cherokee 4.0 A/T is logging code P0138 (rear O2 sensor), the computer's also telling me Fuel Trim Bank 1x2 is locked on at 99.2%, F/T bank 1x1 reads from 5% to ~ -2% depending the load.

She's also had a bit of a starting issue lately. When hot, it was requiring full throttle to start, but that stopped a couple weeks ago. Gas mileage has degraded to about 13mpg (from 17).

Not sure where I start. Is it as simple as replacing the O2 sensor?

Thanks.

Unless you are Bimmer, it could be that simple.

Yes, It certainly sounds like that would fix your issues.

My wife's 98 was doing something similar. I took 10 minutes to swap out the O2 and it ran awesome.

Her's would stumble when the PCM attempted to take over after cold start-up.

Is there oil on the ground?

With your eyeballs.

Be aware I'd check the valve cover and oil filter adapter before the rear main.

Don't be a jerk there's oil from the filter adapter but I've noticed more oil then usual and in an other spot other then the typical place it drips on the ground from the oil adapter

I wasn't being a jerk. If you'd like for me to be a jerk next time I can.

There's no technique to finding an oil leak... just look for it. It's as simple as that.

Good luck.

My XJ seems to be heating pretty quickly when I drive, even when it's not really hot outside. For example, I will drive 5-10 minutes in the city and when I'm stopped at a light, my fan turns on and I notice the gauge is around the 3rd line (It's in celcius so I couldn't say the exact temp in fahrenheit).

Now I know that should be normal, but I was told it still shouldn't do that so often.

I have coolant and I just open the windows and turn the heat up when the engine is really hot.

What could cause this / what can I check myself before getting a professional eye to look at it (I'm really no mechanic)? Radiator?

All my Jeeps got warm quick. It's just what they do. Are you having overheating issues?

Never actually in the red (like I said around the 3rd line on the gauge). I also told myself many times it had to be normal, it's only when someone else said there could be a problem that I started looking into it.

Thanks for the reply though, at least I know it's somewhat normal.

edit: reading other threads on different forums, I find stuff like

How high above 210 are we talking? the I-6 is designed to run right around 210, mine stays a hair under 210 in -20 temps and 100+ temp with A/C on full blast. What is the mileage on your jeep, and are you sure both the clutch and e fans are working? Sounds like you might have some sort of issue if it is getting much above 210.
note that I don't use the AC, I always have 4 windows open and I put the heat on low so the engine can cool down, so in the best scenario, it's right in the middle of the gauge. if I close the fan, it will rise like in the picture. and sometimes hit the 3rd line.

Can you upload a picture of your gauge? On mine (and every other one I've seen) the third line is too cool for normal operating temps. Mine usually stays right around the middle of the gauge and slightly to the cooler side.

Mine doesn't do that. Only gets warm when in a drivethru after driving. Then the aux fan takes care of it and it stays at op temp.

Sounds like you may be close to needing a cooling system overhaul. Things like the water pump not pumping good enough unless the engine is moving. The mech fan clutch not engaging enough to move enough air while at idle.

Do you have a fan shroud on the mech fan? Do you have an aux fan and does it come on when this happens?

I found a pic of what mine looks like most of the time when I'm cruising around,
Oh there ya go, yours is different than mine. Yes you are running warm. Some easy things to try is a coolant flush to make sure you're getting proper flow, cleaning out your radiator with a pressure washer. If you don't have one the self wash gas station would be fine also.

And have you verified that your electrical fan is working?
