My guess would be fluid again because of how seldom it is and that it's not every time you drive for any distance. When you checked it was it warm idling in neutral? If there isn't enough fluid running through the thing it won't move and will act like it is in neutral. The torque convertor needs to be full and have fluid flowing through the vanes to make it move.

Any other electrical problems?

A few months back I had the computer replaced because it was idling very poorly and out of no where started jumping into neutral then back into gear while driving, or at least that's what I believe it was doing, and it was very frequently like every couple seconds. I've had a lot of electrical issues in the past (Due to a rat from hell who chew up a bunch a wiring) and it was explained to me that a short in the clock spring probably caused part of the computer to get fried. Anyways after that I had no issues until recently.

About a month ago I noticed it was seeming to jump into neutral randomly and back into gear, either while driving or sitting at a light. I noticed it only would do it when the jeep had time to warm up quite a bit either by sitting in traffic or by driving longer distances. Checked the transmission fluid and sure enough I was about a quart low so I filled it up, issue went away for about a month. It has returned as of last night though on my way back home after driving about 75-80 miles. Checked my transmission fluid and it is full... Just trying to get some ideas on what else I can try, or even if it might not be a transmission thing..
What color was the fluid when you looked? That stuff does need to be changed out.

Not too familiar with the workings of these automagic things but since they're really hydraulic fluid is very important. Drain & fill with some fresh Dexron III or D/M Compatible fluid.

Yeah i started checking the grounds and everything was good so i looked at the lights the plug was corroded inside it was weird cause the lights were on but the blinker wasn't making the connection.. Cleaned it up and works again

My right turn signal light glows on the dash fairly regularly when the turn signals are off. It causes my front pass. side turn signal/marker to go off, but nothing else is affected. Turn signals operate properly until I turn them off, and it may or may not go back to glowing.

Might it also be a bad socket ground? I was starting to worry it was my multifunction switch.

I'd definitely check out your grounding situation. I had all kinds of fantastical blinky going on when I had a disconnected ground in the right door and signal circuit. Open passenger door + turn signal + brakes = fast blinking dash AND overhead light

Captn01, you have an inline six (I6) motor which has the pistons in a row. Cherokees stopped using a V6 in '87. As for the transmission question, I'm not your guy. Sorry.
Lol Not gonna get chased off, I actually have a good excuse for my error, didn't have any coffee this morning and my brain was rather foggy .

Yes it was warm and idling in neutral, it was right after I had gotten home. Haven't had any other electrical problems since..

The transmission fluid probably could go for a change, that is something I was planning on this weekend but wanted to see if there was anything I should do as well. It was a reddish brown, if I remember correctly, bout to go on lunch and will check again.

No good. Brown = burnt. The right stuff in there should be bright red or pink (depends on brand). It's about 4 quarts to do a drain & fill, though this is only half the system so you should do several to exchange the old crap out.

I am sorry if this is not in the right place. I am new to owning a Jeep. I recently purchased a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. When I purchase did I knew that it had no compression on the number one cylinder. Long story short I ended up being a valve spring $5.29
Cost me a little bit over $200 to have the work done. after it was fixed I drove it for about a week and then it overheated. I had it towed to a local shop and the mechanic found there was no compression again on the number one cylinder. at that time we removed the head had it tested cleaned and found no cracks. Although we did find water pump had no cups left on the fins. So I had the mechanic to replace the water pump install new head gasket after the head was planed. When I went to get the Jeep it ran fine although my oil pressure was near 10 and less after driving when at an idle. Drink some more down and put some Lucas brothers oil treatment in. That was last Tuesday by Friday I was occasionally having hiccup when first taking off from a start. It would just happen randomly not constantly so I decided to put seafoam in my fuel tank I added the whole can of seafoam into about a quarter of a tank of gas within 20 minutes the check engine light came on all my gauges were normal I was not overheating I was not having any problems except a rough idle. So I had it put on the computer to tell me what the code said according to the computer code I was having a misfire on cylinder number one. I switch the plugs between number 1 and number 2 in ran the Jeep some more again the check engine light came on so then I switched the plug wires between number 1 and number 6 to make sure it wasn't a plug wire. And you guessed it again the computer code said misfire cylinder number one so now I have ruled out plugs and plug wires I've just had the head off of that motor twice inspected by two different mechanics who have both should meet did the motor is fine inside there was no damage to any cylinders nor any pistons. Went down to the local autozone store where the clerk tells me that I either have a problem with compression in that cylinder or is a fuel injector. The Jeep runs fine if I'm driving 60 to 80 miles an hour runs like a new motor. I have no water in my oil I have no loss of coolant I have no steam at my exhaust and the motor runs fine as long as it's not an idle. So my question is could be symptoms be a result of a clogged on IAC?
If anybody has any suggestions I would really appreciate it I being a new Jeep owner and getting quite tired of forking over money daily without any result. I just want to fix the damn thing so please help
