XJ Ask the Question Thread
I checked all fuses because there is no marker for the horn fuse. Its a mess under there. I straight wired to the horn and the other wire to the battery from a push button but it still didn't work. What am I missing? Do I need to ground the horn or at the button end? Electrical is not my thing! Body and basic engine.. I'm good but electrical kills me everytime. Sorry for the simple question but I don't get it! And thanks!

Ok well Im finished with the lift on day 5 lol. Freaking ridiculous. Anyways hows the front and the steering look? The pitman arm connection to the centerlink is a little crooked but I dunno if that matters much. I haven't been able to drive it yet and I don't have the time to install my quick discos so I'll just leave em off and see how scary it is.

Should be wired Battery--->switch--->horn--->ground.
Easiest way to figure out wiring is to think of it like water, flows from + to -. if something isnt getting power when its supposed to, follow it upstream to the culprit.

What is your guys stand on the harbor freight winches? Buddy of mine says his 12k winch from HF is the bomb diggity. I'm in the market for a winch so I've been looking for a good deal obviously.. But I deff want something that is super strong and has good reliability.

IMO if you're going to be actually relying on a piece of equipment, I'd rather pay more for a good part up front and depend on it to work instead of cheap and getting a warranty. Like an Autozone CPS - warranty isn't worth **** if you're stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Cruise on post '97s has a few systems but is indeed vacuum actuated. If it looks like it SHOULD be working (light comes on in the dash) then go looking for vacuum leaks. It hangs off of that pesky reservoir that hides in the bumper

I personally want to make sure when I get a winch that it's from a reputable company that will stand behind the winch and not give me any hassle if something goes wrong and it needs parts/replacement/service...
With that in mind, this is something I'm considering:

But since you brought it up, the old style Central Machinery 10K was nice simply because it was such low draw (a vastly under-appreciated feature IMHO). I'd like to have another just to put on the XJ. No additional batteries or electrical upgrades needed. Sweet.
(A local guy actually advertised a NIB one around here in January, but he was asking a ridiculous $400 for it ...I paid $175 for the one on the TJ, and be damned if I'll pay almost twice as much for one off C/L as I can get a new 9K one for at HF ...that said, I offered him as much as I would have paid for the 9K model, just because of the 10K's low draw. No dealie. I'm a patient person though: one will show up sooner or later lol, and I ain't in no hurry.)
