How many of you guys have flushed/changed your trans fluid and filter in the aw4?

I'm thinking about doing it to mine but I hear different things. Some say never to change it and some swear by it. I'm not having any issues with my trans at all. Just want to do it as a preventative thing.

And if you aren't having trouble, I wouldn't flush it. Just a change and filter if you need them.

Mmm, I see your point but that's not quite accurate. FSMs have a mistake in them saying API GL-5 gear oil is appropriate for the AX-15 - it's not and actually destroys them. The owner's manual, however, has said GL-3 since it was printed in '98 haha

Red and sweet-smelling and you have a rough idea as to when it was changed, leave it alone. Any time you get a new vehicle and last fluid change dates are unknown that means it's time for a change. Brown or burnt-smelling definitely get that gunk out of there. Power flushing (an external device forcing fluid through) is not a terribly clever idea if there are a lot of unknowns but a simple drain & fill won't hurt anything. Some shops use a "flush" method that involves letting the transmission's own pump exchange old fluid for new. This is safe to do, though you'll find you'll need to replace ALL of the fluid in the system (8 quarts?) instead of the small amount that comes out when you do a basic drain.

Now let me explain how I think you hook it up and then tell me of I'm wrong.

Basically you place it in front of the normal radiator.
Run a hose hot hose coming from the radiator into it
Run a cold hose from it, back to the tranny.

I feel as if that's to easy.

So both lines go directly to it? Doni need to plug where the old lines used to go on the radiator?

you could just to keep whatever excess is left in there from leaking out over time
