Default NP231 won’t shift after new chain

Hi! First post. Been doing research for years now and finally got myself a Cherokee. 1995, 4.0, AW4, NP231, D35, D30. It had a stretched chain, so I pulled the TC and replaced it, reassembled, and now it won’t shift. Is there something I’m missing or missed? And ideas or suggestions? I’ve driven the Jeep about fifty miles in two wheel drive.

Here’s the ol girl

The trans won't upshift? Check the wiring to the output speed sensor. It's on the drivers side, back of the trans, under the xfer case shifter linkage mount.

He's driven it 50 miles in 2wd so I'm assuming it's the t/case that won't shift.

Disconnect the linkage and try shifting it manually from underneath.

Did you make sure it shifted while on the work bench? When my buddy did his SYE he had the same issue, had to take it apart to find the issue.

Transfer case won’t shift. Tried shifting it manually without the linkage on and nothing still. I didn’t try it on the workbench. You said your buddy had to take it apart to find the problem, what was the problem?

He said to check the shift fork. His shaft for the fork wasn't in the right shift spot.

It's really easy to get the mode collar backwards when you put it back together. Can you not get the handle to move at all? Or moving ithe handle does nothing?
