Default transmission not shifting in 1-2

My transmission won't shift into 2ND when in 1-2. It shifts all the way through the gears fine in 3rd and "D". Anybody ever had this issue?

Not me personally, just my family has been. I have the upmost respect and admiration for our armed forces, I just would never personally serve. It was a randomly generated name that stuck with me for years.

It's probably designed that way for engine braking like descending a really steep hill so you don't fade the brakes. I can't think of any valid reason you would want to hold 2nd so there is no provision.
If you really don't like it you can make your own control box and then it will do whatever.

That's not the part I think that's stupid. For the shift pattern it makes total sense. What is stupid is the fact there's not a position for 1st and a position for 2nd. I have seen the Toyota A340 with a PRND321 pattern, so why doesn't the XJ? It's the same transmission.

I'd bet that AMC used a shifter they already had in the parts bin. AW4 had Overdrive, so they needed somewhere to put "3", lol. 1-2 got combined.

I have. I know how the trans is supposed to operate. It just stopped shifting in 1-2. Which is actually nice when I'm in the rocks. But I know that it isn't supposed to do it. M
