NP231 wont shift
So my shift linkage has always been really sloppy and hard to shift so got stuck in a mud hole last weekend and couldnt get it to shift into 4wd...So I ordered the Novak Cable Shifter installed it today and went to test it out and now I cant shift at all, no 4h, 4l nothing . I disconnected the cable to make sure I wasn't dumb and put it on backward and tried to manually shift it but nothing. How hard is it to manually shift the T-case? And I noticed the front drive shaft spins while I drive but the axles wont engage. Any ideas? btw 1990 xj np231

It sounds like your shift forks are wore out in your transfer case. I had the same problem with my last summer. The nylon pads on the shift fork wear out on the 231's. If it's not your daily driver pull the transfer case apart and see if the nylon pads are wore out. If they are its a $70 part from any 4x4 shop. It is very easy to do if you have the right tools.

Hey, was wondering if you ever got the 231to shift properly yet. I just installed the AA SYE, put new shift fork pads on, deleting the vaccum actuator for the front diff.. AAs destructions told me to cut the shift fork rod for the new housing to fit, and they were right, so I sliced half an inch off it like said. I stabbed the t/c back in and set up the linkage, now she wont shift into anything other than 2hi, do I have the linkage set up properly? Maybe someone can send me a couple pics of thier linkage setup for comparison? Between the sye, new driveshaft, ford 8.8 install, and actuator delete. I am running out of patience... This dam thing is givin me troubles, HELP would be apreciated. Thanks guys
