Default Jeep Sputters, Bucks, and Dies

1998 Jeep Cherokee 4wd 4.0 Auto

Went to drive home from work my jeep started sputtering mainly in lower rpms, i immediately thought fuel injectors but I had already cleaned them all out individually with fuel injector cleaner, when I step on the gas it will sputter for a bit then start driving normally, at lower rpms it will start loosing power, when I come to a stop it will die on me and take a long time to start up again. New Fuel Pump, New Fuel Filter, cleaned injectors, new CPS sensor. New Plugs not sure what to check now

Sounds like ignition, gives out under load..pull the cap and see if the dizzy shaft is loose, any chance you jumped timing? Observe the wires while spraying water at night for arcing?
This being said, there was another guy on here recently with a 98xj turned out was the PCM, he was getting nothing when he hooked up the scan tool. No readings at all. Try wiggling the 3 harness connectors to the pcm?

well I just tried disconnecting and reconnecting those 3 harnesses going to the pcm, also pulled apart the distributor to look at the cap and rotor, everything was in the same position as normal. Took it for a spin and now everytime I let off the gas while I'm moving it will die while I'm coasting. Then I go to start it back up and it will not start unless I hold the gas pedal all the way down, it will also still sputter and backfire in higher rpms. I'm lost lol

I also checked the fuel pressure and I'm getting 37-40 psi.. But then I try to bleed pressure from the line hardly any fuel comes out?! I've bled the fuel from that exact line and fuel will usually spray everywhere! Now it's hardly a trickle of fuel but still reads correct pressure? Could the filter go bad already? Could I have knocked some dirt in the tank when I installed the new one?

You get fuel pressure with the gauge, but when you try to bleed the same schrader valve you put the gauge on, you get nothing? Might be on to something there.

Just for giggles I would test the TPS output signal. You describe pedal movement as having some effect, so might be a dead spot in TPS.

correct, I'm going to pull the line from the fuel pump and see if that's still pumping correctly, if so then I'll check the filter, then move on to tps

Stop chasing your tail should be 49 + or - 5 psi, the fuel pump is trashed.

Figured out it was the fuel filter has a rubber hose that comes off of it that was kinked not allowing fuel to flow through. Runs like normal now, crazy how something so small can do that!
