Default No rear sway bar?

My jeep does not have a rear sway bar, was it an option or did someone take it off. It is a 97 country edition and has almost every option that was available. A rear sway bar is not that important anyway I guess. It has the stock suspension by the way.

it may have been removed, but since it's the country, it may not have even come with one.
they're not really needed anyways, but if you want to know if it did in fact come from the factory with one, you can always get a build report done by using your vin.

The Up-Country package did not have a rear sway bar.

This is different from the Country package that has decals on the sides of the Jeep.

The rear sway bar isn't needed.

Mine is a country edition with the up-country package. What is the up-country package, why did it not come with a sway bar, and why did other models come with a swaybar if not needed? I am not saying anyone is wrong because I agree that a rear swaybar is not needed I am just trying to figure out the reasoning behind this.

So if I get a 3" lift with new coils and leafs will I only gain about 2 inches over stock?

2 inches over new stock Up-Country height, yes. Most likely your suspension has sagged down over the years.

Quickest measurement is from the center of the axle to the fender should measure 17" from factory. Up-Country was 18".

3" lift will be 3" from the 17" mark.

Don't forget with a lift you will need a front sway bar disconnect or extensions and yes many XJ's came without rear SB's.

Why do you need sway bar disconnects or extensions? some lifts don't have them what would happen if i lifted it 3 inches without extending the sway bars.

It can put the front axle in a bind depending on how much lift you have. The sway bar will pull the axle forward as the control arms are pulling it backwards. Longer links help maintain the sway bar geometry. Usually anything under 3 inches isn't a problem.

Up Country also came with a limited slip 8.25" rear end.

Mine has the limited slip rear end, which isn't great because it makes the only drop in locker option the 500 dollar no-slip. If it was open I could get an Aussie locker and many others for much cheaper.

Yes - the LSD carrier is different and to install a lunchbox locker requires changing to an open carrier.
