Default 87 Cherokee turn signal out

Hello all. I have been lurking for a couple of months but only recently have needed to post a question that I could not find already answered. I recently purchased an 87 Cherokee Laredo and have slowly been working through the many issues (thus the name Calamity) thanks to you folks.

The current issue is a new one. I have no rear left turn signal. Every other signal works around the vehicle(though now I'm realizing i didn't test the hazzards). There is no fast flash and the bulbs are stock except the LED Headlights. The signals all worked fine after changing bulbs, multi function switch, ignition switch, installing new blinker and hazzard relays(of which there were none installed). I've already changed the bulb(it wasn't burnt) and double checked the relays. Using a test light to ground, I don't have power at the connection to the light. I'm thinking there is a short somewhere, but being new to Jeeps, I'm not sure of where those wires disappear to or common location one would get a short. I didn't want to randomly start pulling interior trim panels only to find that there are no wires. Point me in the right direction so I can get this thing rolling again!

All of the wiring to the rear lighting starts in the LH Body Harness, crossing over over the appropriate circuits to the RH Body Harness in front of the Rear Seat, not that you need to concern yourself with the RH side, but for completeness sake...

The first place I'd look for issues is there in front of and underneath the Rear Seat. It's right above the Front Leaf Spring Mount and given the heat that is required to break down the thread locker on the leaf spring bolt, if someone wasn't careful what they were doing, the wiring there may have gotten a bit "toasty".

Other than that, no other problem spots come to mind. The LH Body Harness connects to the Dash Harness behind the LH Kick Panel. It makes sense to me to start there, making sure you're getting voltage out of the Dash Harness first...

The hazzard lights flash everywhere but left rear where the problem turn signal is.

Then check the bulb socket and bulb.

Not to question your expertise, because I would rather change the light socket than chase a short any day, but at the connector leading to the entire light housing, I can not get a blinker signal on any pin when checked with a test light to ground. I can get one from the brake pin. In fact, I don't even know which pin is the turn signal, I just tested them all. But, if you say so I will gladly try the socket and another bulb.

Turn signal is it's own bulb. Look at the amber lens to pinpoint it's location.
Might end up being worthwhile to remove the plastic panel behind the spare tire and checking for power there.

No signal behind the spare tire so I went to the engine compartment. I found the wire and there is a signal there in several places all the way to the front turn signal, which makes sense because the front turn signal works. I do not have it on the inside behind the drivers side kick panel near the fuse box before it goes under the interior door trim. I poked around for hours and cannot isolate the location. I know I can hook into the wire after the fuse and run a new one but was really trying to find the problem to prevent future issues later.

On the up side I found a tarp and a cheap Chinese "dagger" under the rear seat.

You have the color codes. There is a connector in the driver side kick panel.

Yes on the connector. I checked on both sides ands no signal.

Do the wires go out of the fuse block into the engine bay and re-enter the cab or do the wires going to the rear never leave the cab? I suppose I can remove the fuse block but wasn't sure what other issues I may cause.

I don't have the manual for that. I do for the Comanche, but it's different.

Just for fun, check the connector highlighted in the attached Tip from my website. CRUISER'S MOSTLY RENIX TIPS

CONNECTOR AND RELAY/RECEPTACLE REFRESHING

OCTOBER 30, 2015 SALAD 38 COMMENTS EDIT

I suggest unplugging EVERY electrical connection in the engine bay you can find, whether engine related or not, and spraying it out with a
good electronics cleaner good electronics cleaner
, visually inspecting the terminals making sure they haven’t retracted into the plastic holder, and then plugging it back together.

There’s a critical 10-pin connector for the front lighting system located in front of the air cleaner and behind the left headlight assembly. Don’t miss that one. Also be sure that the connectors to the ballast resistor mounted near the air cleaner housing are clean and tight.

ALL of the relays should be removed, the terminals wire-brushed until shiny, and the receptacles sprayed out with contact cleaner. Then plug them back in. I do this on every Renix Jeep I purchase or work on for someone else.

I finally had a moment to check things out.

cruiser54, I have seen this post even when searching from the greater interwebs. The good news is I found the problem and you were right. One of wires in the connection from the new multifunction switch came loose. It has been there for weeks maybe a month or better and only now came loose. During the un-plugging/testing of every wire and pin, I un-plugged that connector and saw the pin had backed out. Pushed it back in and gave a light tug to ensure it clipped into place and it worked. The wiring on this thing actually looked untouched with no jumbled wires or splices. Next project is to get the horn working again, but I think that was me too from changing that multifunction switch. Thanks folks. On to the search bar again.
