96 XJ hot starting without throttle
I am new to the jeep world and trying to fix a minor issue and needing a little guidance or suggestions. I have a 96 4.0 Cherokee. I Need to give it about half throttle to start. Runs and idles great after start. I cleaned the IAC and throttle body last night. The battery was unhooked so I think it would have relearned. Still having the same issue. I am changing plugs, wires, cap and rotor tomorrow since I don't know when that was last done. The IAC was extended quite ways so don't know if that's normal or if it should be retracted a little more in normal operation. Any suggestions on other things to look for?

Is yours an obd1 or obd2 96. Does your temp sensor come off a sender near the back of head or the sensor in the thermostat. If unsure...get truck warmed up. Remove connector off thermostat sensor...if coolant temp reads low then obd2...if normal then obd1. If obd 1, then disconnect thermostat sensor and try cold start and warm start...either one get better?
It is OBDII. Thank you for the suggestion, I did find the resistance chart for it so Ill check that as well as unplugging it. Will it read low if I dont have a gauge? I havent seen all the dash illuminations yet but it only has gas gauge and speedometer. But I do know I havent seen the aux radiator fan run outside of running the AC. By the way the title should read "not starting" instead of "hot starting". Just wanted to make sure I didnt mislead you, but I can see how temp sensor could effect how it starts, but I do know it needs half throttle to start whether the engine is physically hot or cold. Ill reply with more details later after I dig into it a little more. Thanks again!

A leaky injector will flood the intake and make it too rich to combust, IAC can't let enough air in for that. Open throttle gives enough air to combust. Just an idea to check for.
