If you still have any kind of packaging, check the wire diagram for the horn's relay. If it's an all-in-one compressor/horn assembly, it will have a constant draw to keep the compressor primed, or on "stand-by",but it should NEVER be enough to drain your battery, unless the wires on the relay were incorrect.

2 questions:

1. Does the chain of the NP231 move when the car is in 2WD?

2. Can a bad tranny mount trigger a rear main seal leak? I replaced the rear main about 4 months ago and it's leaking again (and yes I'm sure it's the rear main) but my tranny mount is shot, causing some nice vibes. I figure, since the seal sits between the engine and tranny, and the tranny vibrates erratically, it could break that seal quite easily. Am I right in thinking that?

Default Back hatch problems

I am not sure if I am in the right place, but I have a 97 Jeep Cherokee limited. The back hatch door won't open. One of the main ideas in getting this jeep was so I could buy bags of feed for ouranimal s and not break my back getting them in and out of the trunk. And GROCERIES. Any ideas on how to get it to open? At first it opened fine. Then I had to lock-unlock the power lock, then sometimes it opened....now not at all. This process took about 6 months. I am frustrated with this and really don't want to take it in for repair. Hope I can find an answer here

Low oil quantity, the remaining oil is slopping forward away from the oil pump pickup when you brake.

Default Question: Xj wont start

I went to start my 1994 XJ a few days ago and it seemed like the battery was dead. After placing it on a charger I tried to start it. All I could hear was a knocking sound.

Yesterday I replaced the Starter but she still won't start. Is the alternator the problem?

Recently I've done a full tune up, including: water pump, gaskets, oil, spark plugs, cap, wires, exhaust manifold and radiator.

thanks

Describe the knocking sound.... Is it cranking over or are you just getting clicks? Why was the starter replaced? Test with a known good battery.

why do you need adapters? The 16" TJ ones are the same bolt pattern as the XJ.

choose a "switched" circuit to splice into. My fog lights are hooked up this way - I think I used the cig lighter circuit

either your oil level is so low that the pickup isn't sucking up oil when you brake, or the pump is worn out (doesn't pump enough at low RPMs). If the oil level is fine, get the pump replaced.

1. Yes it does - all components in the transfer case move anytime the vehicle is in motion. Selecting 4x4 simply pushes the chain drive gear onto the input shaft.

2. The seal/rear bearing is not between the tranny and engine, it's around the output for the crankshaft. Since the tranny connects to the crankshaft, bad vibrations could make the bearing/seal go bad much faster yes. Repair both at the same time.

you should be able to get in the back and pry out the plastic covering on the hatch and try and grab the release cable to open it. Once you get it open you'll be able to see if the electric lock motor is working at all, or if the cable is bound up.

Default Run Temp

Question:

What's the coolest a 1995 4.0 can run, mine runs at 182 since I put in a 180 thermostat, is this too cool?
