That's actually a really good price on synthetic line.

Yeah, it's a clever description though. Would've fooled a noob like me I'll decide for myself whether the winch will support a synthetic line after I get to know it. I don't see the science behind their fine print on the matter.
I wonder what the weight difference is between the two lines.

I had an LP8500. I ran the "Runva" synthetic line on it, worked great for a while. Then it began to melt around the drum.. It had lots of pulling power, but after 7 months the "engage" "free-spool" lever seized and would not free-spool so I returned it and picked up a warn vr8000. the warn is certainly a smoother running unit overall.

But I would not recommend using synthetic rope on this winch. I have proven that even on a few small pulls that it will melt the line. On some longer pulls it would destroy it for sure.

I would say about 10 to 12 recoveries. The winch never seemed to work right to begin with though, so its a good possibility I got a lemon. There's lots of people out there using them without an issue, and for the price its kinda hard to beat. I wouldn't hesitate to try another one

Personally, I'll never replace a cable on a winch with another cable. I'll always replace it with rope.
The only reason I still have the cable on my DD Jeep is that the cable is still in good condition.

A lot of guys go with a less expensive winch because of cost, but I've got a Warn 6000 lb winch on my flatfender that is over 20 years old and works perfect, just a little lube and clean up every couple of years.
That makes it really the cheapest way to go.
