I guess that rules synthetic out for this winch then. Oh well, it is very much a budget winch. I've read good things about them though, so hopefully it holds up for a few years anyhow.
That's BS. I've had Synthetic line on my XRC8 for the longest time. The first wrap might get warm but it's in perfectly good condition...

They're just covering their ***.

I definitely think the hawse looks better. Oh,and I like what you did with that stock bumper there. Looks clean
That's actually a really good price on synthetic line.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't synthetic line just lighter and nicer to work with that cable. I mean isn't that the only difference?

Yeah, it's a clever description though. Would've fooled a noob like me I'll decide for myself whether the winch will support a synthetic line after I get to know it. I don't see the science behind their fine print on the matter.

I wonder what the weight difference is between the two lines.

I had an LP8500. I ran the "Runva" synthetic line on it, worked great for a while. Then it began to melt around the drum.. It had lots of pulling power, but after 7 months the "engage" "free-spool" lever seized and would not free-spool so I returned it and picked up a warn vr8000. the warn is certainly a smoother running unit overall.

How many recoveries would you say you did in that time? I'm not a heavy wheeler, and still a newb so I thought this would be a good starter for me. Hope to get the 2 years out of it that the warranty is good for anyhow.

I would say about 10 to 12 recoveries. The winch never seemed to work right to begin with though, so its a good possibility I got a lemon. There's lots of people out there using them without an issue, and for the price its kinda hard to beat. I wouldn't hesitate to try another one

But I would not recommend using synthetic rope on this winch. I have proven that even on a few small pulls that it will melt the line. On some longer pulls it would destroy it for sure.

Sorry to hear your winch melted that expensive stuff! I'll be fine with steel on this one

Here's a link about it.

http://www.fourwheeler.com/techartic...ynthetic_rope/

Personally, I'll never replace a cable on a winch with another cable. I'll always replace it with rope.

The only reason I still have the cable on my DD Jeep is that the cable is still in good condition.

A lot of guys go with a less expensive winch because of cost, but I've got a Warn 6000 lb winch on my flatfender that is over 20 years old and works perfect, just a little lube and clean up every couple of years.
That makes it really the cheapest way to go.
