Superwinch LP8500 anyone?
Hey jeepers,
Anyone have experience with these winches? I just ordered this one from 4wd.com for $284.99 shipped!
It's going on my Nates4x4 slimline winch bumper after I get it finished up

That was the only thing that bugged me a little about it. I'm new to winching, and this is my first ever winch purchase, but have done enough research to know that for a steel cable it should have roller fairleads and these kind are more for synthetic.

It'll be ok.
It's going to scar up pretty good and that black power coat will be a thing of the past but it's not going to dissolve on the first pull.
I actually have a Hawse fairlead on one of my winches with a steel cable. Like I said... it's gouged pretty good in places but works just fine.

Ouch!!!! that stuff is too pricey for me! Maybe one day when I run out of other things for the XJ to spend $180 on
I definitely think the hawse looks better. Oh,and I like what you did with that stock bumper there. Looks clean

Just saw this on the description...
I guess that rules synthetic out for this winch then. Oh well, it is very much a budget winch. I've read good things about them though, so hopefully it holds up for a few years anyhow.
Warning: Synthetic rope cannot be used on this off-road winch. Synthetic rope can only be used on winches with steel drums designed specifically to withstand the rigorous forces created-by synthetic rope; for example the Superwinch Terra Series, the Danny O'Day S4000, the S4000SR or the Talon Series. In addtion, the heat generated by the brake which is located inside the LP Series drum exceeds the heat limitations of Dyneema synthetic rope. Many of our competitors will sell you a winch with a similar brake in drum setup with aftermarket synthetic rope and will not warn you of the damage which may occur to the winch, rope, vehicle or injury to the winch operator.

I don't get exactly how synthetic rope creates any more significant forces than steel rope. That sounds back-asswards to me! Anyone have any thoughts on that?
@Eagle, i can't wait to try it out! I'll probably post more on that in my build thread (whenever i get around to making it!) but I just got an email from a lady at 4wd.com who said these winches backordered until the end of the month.
