Last weekend I made one of the best upgrades so far to my XJ. I replaced the stock OE sloppy (not worn out) variable ratio steering box with an OE 12.7 to 1 quick ratio steering box from a 97 Grand Cherokee. It's a direct bolt on!!! (I also replaced the intermediate shaft while I had it apart.)
My Jeep is mostly street driven and this steering box made it so much more fun to drive. A bonus was that I also used the pitman arm that came with the Grand Cherokee steering box because it's has an additional 3/4" more drop than the stock XJ pitman arm.
Bone yard steering box (with 3/4" more drop) pitman arm, and brand new intermediate shaft total cost was $175.00. Highly recommended and easy upgrade!!
