I have an aftermarket stereo that needs to be programmed every time it looses power before it's usable, so that's not a convenient way to go. Which is why i just wanted to cut the ignition system. Everything still has background power, but can't be turned on.

Let me get this strait. Your scenario makes it sound like the car jacker is gonna hop in the passenger seat, point a gun to your head, and tell you to drive. Then you "accidentally" kill the jeep and he just goes, "Oh well, didn't really want this car anyways..." gets out of the car and says have a nice day!

Is that how this goes in your mind?

You can still use the battery disconnect. You don't have to put it on the main power line. I would put it on the ignition wire that goes to the starter (you could also put it on the power wire to the starter, but it's not necessary). Everything in the jeep will work except the starter. If you need a switch that you can flip on the fly, use a small switch and relay on the same ignition wire to the starter.

Now that I've answered your initial question, I'd ask you to rethink your scenario just in case it were to ever happen. I carry a Glock .40 when I travel, but rarely have it on me for day to day ops. If I lived in a high crime area, that might be different. If someone were to carjack me, they can have the Jeep (gun and all). I'll get another. Unless I absolutely knew that I had the upper hand, and I was assured to win the conflict - It just isn't worth it to me. The last thing I'd want is a pi**ed off carjacker with a gun who can't start my Jeep standing 10 feet away from me. I remember being an 18 yo tough guy, but I promise that the sharpest knife in the country and all the ninja skills in the world won't stop 15 rounds sprayed from a tweeked-out crackhead's 9mm.

I encourage you to do the mod for anti-theft purposes when doorless, though!

I jus thought about this. If you put the switch on the ignition circut, you could leave the Jeep running when being "jacked". It will continue to run as normal. Once the theif shuts off the engine, it will not restart (unless they are smart enough to jump the terminals at the starter)...

The best security system is insurance. Don't cheap out on that, pay the extra 30 bucks a month to get full coverage, and if it's stolen you get PAID. Hell... I would LOVE to have someone steal my Jeep. I got it super cheap, I'd get paid out great.

If you don't want to pay for insurance, wire it to your fuel pump relay. If you hook it to your battery and kill all power every time you cut off the battery, you'll be reprogramming your stereo, if you have keyless entry, that wont work, etc etc. Realistically, if you're getting carjacked you just need to get out of your car and let them take it. It's a dime a dozen Jeep Cherokee... you'll find another one... Not worth your life.

This is what I always thought would be cool to do. Wire in a remote starter so that it would cut off the ignition. Have the fob in your pocket, not on the keyring of course, and if someone jacks you, wait till hes a little ways away, not out of range of the remote, and cut off ignition and watch him s__t his pants trying to restart it, then get out and run like a little girl. Then just go retrieve your XJ and drive away.

I have a security system like that, on my old ranger. Its not an alarm, its simply a keyless entry system with an additional starter dissable. Guess it wont kill me to try that, if keeping the remote on my pocket

I would put it on the fuel pump. Hit the switch on way out when jacked and come back later for jeep when the jacker is gone.

I would put c4 under the seats on a button so when someone tries to steal it it blows them up!

When some attempts to car-jack you... simply remove the keys and swallow them.

Then you'll feel pretty silly if it turns out he only wanted directions to the mall...

Never said i would take on a nutcase with a gun, if THAT happened i'd let him have the damn jeep. I plan on carrying a .40 baby glock (The 27 i think), but again that'll have to wait until i'm 21 and i can get a CC license.

Honestly my BIGGEST fear of getting jack is i fall to the ground and the car jacker runs me over. Which is really why i want to kill the engine instantly. But i had to settle on a fuel pump kill, since i couldn't find an accurate diagram of the ignition system. Hooked it up, works perfectly lol, and im happy with the spot i put in it... too bad i can't share where that spot is
