Hey all, I. am in the middle of the brake conversion and I have a question:
In the photo, here's the original drum brake parking brake cable and also the new disc brake parking brake lever on my Chrysler 8.125 rear axle. Obviously not gonna work. Any suggestions?
Now that is slick! I used the cables on the axle of the 8.8 and the box on the frame rail and mated that up with my stock cable from the handle. Took a little figuring, but that makes it easy. $40 for the pair isn't terrible either.
Thanks! I guess I was under the impression that the brake cables weren't required, but oh well...got them from Rock Auto. Also took the opportunity to replace the axle bearings and seals. Smooth as butter now.
if your brake cables are in good shape, I would just pick-up some of these cable loops from Home Depot
Completely spacing on the technical term, something like cable clamp, or wire clamps.
Cut the spring so you can wrap the cable around itself like this;
Maybe my XJ is special, but the RT Offroad cables were not the right length for my application (C 8.25)
I was kind of peeved because they were kind of expensive and Crown/RT Offroad refused to acknowledge that they weren't correct for my set-up. One side was too long and I didn't want to modify the expensive cables. Ended up replacing the axle and gave the cables to the guy that picked up my old C 8.25

Stupid question from me,,, I'm wondering if you are meaning that they aren't long enough ? If that'sthe case, just adjust the equalizer ? They should work ? I just did this the other day. Used 3/16" rope cable clamps from Lowes. .78 cents each. Remove/ easier to un-twist the gravel guard back about 2" the clamps are suppose to work better if you remove the plastic coating on the cables. I did this, and mine work fine ! Not worth spending the extra money on !

I originally tried to do this and had alot of trouble bending it around and getting it into position like that. I got frustrated and just ordered the quadratec ones made for the conversion. $40 isnt terrible.
Do the quadratec ones fit my 2000 4dr sport? When I took the stock ones off my truck, they were unequal length. All I see are ones that were the same length.

The Crown cables on Quadratec will fit your 2000. Says passenger side is 70.5 inches and driver's side is 34.25 inches.
