I finished mounting Grand Cherokee disk brakes on the back axel on my 1998 Cherokee. Next I need to bolt the axel on and install the e-brake cables. I am going to go with new LH and RH cables out back. I see people on the site that loop the existing Cherokee cables and clamp them.
I was wondering if I'd get a cleaner installation by using new Grand Cherokee cables?
Anyone done this. See attached picture.

just wondering what kind of axle is that? and did you do the front one too i see the driveshafts are out

It is a Chrysler 8.25" out of a 1999 Cherokee (44k miles). I swapped the front axel out too for the one off the 44,000 mile Cherokee I picked up. I have pictures of this in "my photos". I had those drive shafts sand blasted and painted them when I had the axel blasted.

Here are a couple of links to see other people that have done the conversion. If you can get a Grand Cerokee rear end off a 95-98 you are all set. I picked one up that was toasted on Craigslist for $50. It cost $90 to have it and a bunch of other stuff sandblasted which I would have done myself but my compressor fried. That's my total cost plus the Grand Cherokee brake cables if that's the best way to go. Just scrap the Grand Cherokee axel after you take the brakes off and that's it!

The odd thing about that first post is the guy has his soft lines hanging low. I didn't want to mount mine below the axel like that. Not sure why he did it that way. Mine are on the top of the axel.

Oh and the black paint overspray will be removed from the rotor before the install...

Picture I found of an XJ e-brake cable modified to fit the Grand Cherokee parking brakes. This is what I want to avoid if possible if the Grand Cherokee cables will work... I thought a picture may help...

there is nothing wrong with this setup. this is how i have mine and it has been this way for about 6 months plus with no issues. the grand cables will not work they are not the correct lenght and they do not bolt up to the xj box as far as i can remember. but if you can get them to work post some pics and a wright up. i have never seen one or any body going this route.

Thanks for the posts. I'm going to think this over and get creative. I can appreciate that looping the cable works but there must be a way I can fab something up for a little cleaner of an install.... The welder is ready and waiting!
I thought I remembered an article where some guy cut the end of the castings off the cherokee (where cable mounts), then cut the Grand casting ends off and welded the cherokee onto them... I just can't remember what he did...

I've been running this setup for about 4 years now and I have a 5 speed so it gets used all the time. No problems at all. The only thing I had to do was trim back the spring.
