Just bought this yesterday for 6500? Did I get a good one? And wtf is this chaos in the engine bay? I have a 4.0 engine but I've never seen a renix in person til yesterday.

 

Renix is the fuel injection system used through 1990. It is a good system, simple, easy to work on. however you have a horridly dirty K and N airfilter system, I hate the K and N system, in putting in this system they removed the crankcase breathing system, which a bad. not only is the K and N filter not good at filtering, the crankcase breather all disconnected will let dirt into the engine.
Source original parts to get you airfilter and crankcase breathing back to stock. Check out wreckers for the aircleaner box.

your cooling system has been upgraded to the later type, which is good You habe the better open cooling system, verses the closed system. this is good, I did this to my 1990 XJ

That round plastic ball is part,of the vacuum system, the jeep uses engine vacuum to operate the heating and ventilation system controls and the moving vanes that control HVAC air control. on some models the vaccum system also operates the front axle disconnect. the missing vacuum hoses on the fireall ypu show are part of that system

the factory manual shows the hoses and what they do.
