New to me 01 Cherokee Pulls Right & Engine Codes
Passenger side
Drivers side
Rear main seal leak?
Rear main seal leak?
Hey there!
Just picked up my first XJ today - an 01 with a 3 inch lift sitting on 31s.
On the way home, it seemed to have a bit of a pull to the right. Additionally, the passenger side tire is cupping. Is this as simple as an alignment issue? I think it could use shocks - I've attached some images of the front suspension. The passenger side has some sort of piece that doesn't look right but I'm not very familiar with these.
Additionally on the way home, it threw three engine codes : P0303, P0300, and P0302. They all have to do with misfires on cylinder 2&3 - is this a crankshaft position sensor? Plugs?
Anything I should immediately take care of maintenance wise? Going to do all of the fluids before I drive it any farther. Looks like I have some sort of small oil leak as well (rear main seal?)
Thanks in advance!

Have the alignment checked it looks like it still has the stock control arms . The caster could be on the low side and it could let it pull . and for the codes you can start with a tune up , you don'tknow how long the plugs have bin in there .

Agreed, do a tune up and fluids service, as for the leak, always start at the top...RMS is often a misdiagnosis, it might be a leaky valve cover or gasket, might be an OFA o ring, ALWAYS check above first.
The 4.0 sits on a slight incline, therefore all leaks end up at the RMS.

Third-ed with the tune up. I don't think the CPS will cause only some cylinders to misfire, and plugs are always a good idea. I think 01's were coil on plug, so you could have one or two coils going bad?

I hate being the bearer of bad news but this sounds more like a cracked head to me. First thing I would do is drain the oil and see if there is coolant in there. Seems like the PO knew it had an issue, cleared the code so it looked like it had no cel and sold it. I hope not but seeing that it's an 01, expect the worst. I went through the exact same thing with my 01.

What are the tire pressures?
If it had a cracked head, the oil will be looking like a milkshake.

Typically yes since it normally cracks up by the rockers and mixes directly into the oil. But mine did not show the milkshake. Oil was beautiful. Cylinder walls showed all the signs of coolant being eaten. Head gasket was fine as well. Might be rare but it is possible.

All set! Did alignment myself, changed all fluids and plugs. Runs like a top! Barely leaking, no engine codes, coolant looks fine. Wheeled it out on the beach all last weekend, had a blast!
