Welds need to be gas tight though. Seems simple enough right? For some reason all the self welded mufflers I've seen look like they'very got boogers coming out the ends.

I'm on performance curve now looking and I'm pretty sure this is more of a steal then a deal!

Do you think I should just take it to a muffler shop and have them install it? Or should I ask my friends to do it? I don't know how to weld so I don't know the answer to this one. Is it tough to weld the exhaust gas tight?

i have an 89 xj, i cut out the cat and muffler. running open headers for 1 day, ive been researching, i was going to make a "side" exhaust (idk the correct term, the tailpipe will stick out the rear right door in front of the rear right wheel) so from the end of the manifold i would run an 18 inch pipe, and a 90 degree pipe, will this create enough back pressure for the engine? i know its illegal to run catless, this is an offroad rig

If its an offroad rig don't do a side pipe, you'll have to go below the frame rail, an that will be the first thing you smash on the trail.

thats true, even though i live in flat florida i agree it wont be best, i have also concluded that open headers, 18 inch straight pipe, gutted cat, no muffler, it all sounds WAYYY too loud, its badass, sounds so beast, but it drowns out my subwoofers so its basically pointless even having speakers. what muffler should i put that will make it a bit more quite, but still awesome, but allows me to still hear my music comfortably

Id go with the SLP Loudmouth it sound really good with out a cat almost sounds straight piped but a lil bit less loud. Heres a link to the muffler on the SLP site: http://www.slponline.com/view_produc...sp?P=310013919
Its actually cheaper on their site then any other from what I had found.

I'm getting ready to buy my exhaust kit from performance curve. I have heard that the owner is a vendor on here. Would anyone know his name?

And if I can't get a good price over the internet or can save some $$$ I may just buy the stuff from a local parts place. Can anyone give me the part numbers to the actual piping? I'm looking to go 2.5 cat back.

You were right, that was his name. Although I just entered in cherokeeforum in the discount section and it worked! I'll be looking forward to installing everything soon! I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Also, I just had the Cat replaced by the dealership, and the took down my muffler and never put it back in because it was "rusty". Will i need to buy an adapter for the muffler to cat connection? I don't think there is one in the kit.

So I have searched and there's a lot to read here s maybe I missed it. But does anyone make a true 2.5" downpipe? Can't seem to find one anywhere, and if I'm doing the cat back with 2.5" it makes sense to do the downpipe as well.

I followed this thread day by day for a while and I havent seen anything about a 2.5'' downpipe. Ive searched google, asked a few shops, and asked on here and still cant find a true 2.5'' downpipe. I ended up getting a pacesetter header which comes with a downpipe assembly. Its as close to a longtube header as you can get on a Jeep lol I like it, I had to cut some of the piping of the header to get the downpipe tube to clear the driveshaft, but that was easy. Now its a 3-2-1 exhaust with a mandrel bent downpipe(still 2.25") all the way to the cat. Which will soon be a 2.5'' magnaflow cat and whatever muffler I pick out(still undecided)

Hope this helps bud
