Not necessarily. I see your profile has 1996 filled out, so you may either have the strong 29-spline model, or you may have the 27-spline model which is comparable with the Dana 35, but with less aftermarket support.

4.0L w/ automatic transmission all shipped with 3.55:1 since at least 1990, by the way.

I could be wrong but I'm almost positive mine is not 3.55... yes I have a 96 however it is a manual transmission... but it sounds like you know more about this than me so I'll believe you on this....

biggest that's appropriate sized for 3.55 behind a manual would be 31" tires

Better than stock gears and cheaper than regearing a weaker axle. I'm on 31s with 3.55 auto and I would love any help I can get.

sorry been mia. I have a automatic. Going to go check out that calculator soon.

So i was looking at the axle the other night and wondering what the best covering for it would be. I was considering just trying to use a bedliner and touch up what was bad but that would still require so much grinding that I might as well take this down the road to get sand blasted and primered. What would be a strong primer/anti corrosion coating? Por15? I want to just paint it black after the primer, nothing expensive and easier to touch up.

That chart is badass. I have the AW4/NP231(no super low kit) and went with 3.55 on 215/75/15 on one chart compared to 4.56 on 35s and it was nearly identical using the RPM @ speed chart. I think i'm going to have to get new ring and pinion so there goes my original idea of saving these gears. Oh well.

Use Chassis Saver. Expensive but chemically bonds with the steel. Big rig shops buy it by the skid load.

Is por15 considered a chassis saver? Or do you have a specific brand you're referring to?
