Ok i just picked up a c8.25 out of a 2000 a XJ to do my axle swap. And I was cleaning it and checking it out. And figured I will do the the disc brake conversion when I install. Im going to get all the parts needed for the conversion saturday being my local junkyard is having a all you can carry for 50 bucks. So all information on this conversion would be great. And if anyone has a parts list togeather for each the zj or kj that would be greatly appreciated. So which one should I go look for as a donor the ZJ or KJ? Thanks

from what I have seen the KJ has the 8.25 rear in it from the factory. the backing plates will mount up better than the ZJ. The ZJ plates have to be opened up to fit over the end of the axle. If it is $50 for all you can carry then I would grab everything off the rear axle that is associated with the rear brakes, and you might want to grab the master cylinder and proportioning valve wile you are there too.

Remember to get the emergency brake cables off your donor... with very minor modification these will work on your XJ also. When I did my conversion I kept the same brake pads which still had at least half life left in them.

I got mine off a kj. I took everything that I had to take off to get to the backing plate. I took calipers pads springs nuts bolts everything. Make sure you get the longer backing plate studs off of the donor vehicle and some longer wheel studs most likely. I just did mine and it wasn't too bad. Good luck!

I used ZJ for my disc brake parts conversion including the emergency brake cables short and long and was able to make them work on my '99 xj. Just as Cruiser 54 stated ...no big whoop in opening center hole or bolt holes... also agree with going to bigger wheel studs, I did the same. Had stock studs in front for about six months before I got around to changing them too.

I guess i should swap the front disc with a zj as well. Let me just double check my list.
Calipers
Roters
Brake lines
Backing plates and bolts
Longer wheel studs.. will zj studs work?
Master cylinder and proportioning valve

Zj front brakes are exactly the same. No reason to swap.
