Should Jeep XJs ever be considered a daily driver anymore.

I think one reason I like my jeep so much is bc of all the **** I catch from coworkers and friends. I make decent money and everyone seems to think I should be in a "new" truck. as much as I like some of the new trucks, a lot of the features are just silly and TOTALLY unnecessary. I'm an inherent cheapass and refuse to pay for a TRUCK optioned like my dads new caddy. if I needed a pulling truck I could understand paying for one. but I don't. the jeep covers everything I want. if it doesn't have it I can easily add it.
Up until I was 63 yrs. old I had never owned a Jeep in my life. But ended up looking at a Grand Cherokee Overland Edition that a guy had for sale. I should never have done that it was several yrs. old but was in a 10 condition in/out/mechanical. It was beautiful Black Pearl, Black & Gray Leather and every option my Lincoln Town Car has "everything" + Nav.
That was 2010 this year in June I bought my XJ and started building on it. Yesterday was the first real test for both of them in snow we had about 8" here and winds that blew 13-25 mph for 24 hrs during the same time. Needless to say big drifts here in the country 6 mi out of town how deep on the roads I didn't know about 3' in my drive. I used the XJ to go to town thinking if I got stuck I had the winch. The new 12:50x33x15" MS worked fine with depths in a few places almost to the hood worked FB no problems.
Last night the wife and I went out to dinner in the GC it is stock and has all season radials on it several trucks had been out on our road and we had no problems either even where others had been pulled toward the ditch I moved over further to the left untraveled side and made it through in low range.
Jeeps are keepers for me for some time to come
along with a big car
I did not own so many vehicles as DD. But between these vehicles I owned, which are 2009 Ford Fusion, 98 ZJ 5.2 and XJ; XJ was the most practical and convenient. I drive 500 miles a month, not a big traveler. If I was doing higher miles, of course my choice would differ. But it is more fun to drive, much more reliable and gets more looks than any other vehicles I owned. So imo, yeah they still can be considered as a DD, and even a great DD..

I've never driven in snow before,
but the satisfaction of blasting down snow filled streets passed disabled vehicles would be great.
I would taunt them as I effortlessly plowed through the snow drifts

I drive mine as a stock normal daily next to my Av. I dont go anywhere much so gas isnt much for me. I consider my Cherokee XJ a Classic and treat it much how people treat their corvets and mustangs.

Just saying, with two vehicles and a long commute it's easy to justify a fuel sipper DD. No snow or floods in the summer lol.
Maybe the first time past... anybody who's been in that situation before knows that if they have a recovery strap they can make a LOT of money pulling people out. Guy on here a winter or two ago posted he made more money on the way to work than he was going to make during his shift...

I'm very happy with my XJ as a weekend warrior. I have about a 40 mile commute every day and my 25mpg 1990 Mazda 626 is a great car. I love them both! Plus, being able to work on the XJ at my own leisure and not having to worry about having it on the road the next day is a huge bonus.

My XJ filled a spot for me after working on my race cars for over 40 yrs. and not being able to race anymore. It sits in a slot in the shop where one of the race cars sat, only one of those left.
Mine was never meant to be a trailer queen either it is for "Off Road Use" paint scrapes and a few dents they come with that. Plus cheap sheet metal and other body materials are easy to come by. We won't talk about the fuel mileage it gets (needs gear change) but that's fine.
For good MPG drive the Town Car 26 mpg hiway 22 combined and one of the safest cars on the road. Comfort factor alone trumps 98% of all the other cars when your 6'5".
