Should Jeep XJs ever be considered a daily driver anymore.

Seriously how is this still a thread. Of course an XJ is still a DD. Why wouldn't it be. I still see 1980s Mercedes and old Toyotas. Hell i drive vans, trucks and cars and honestly the jeep always the best feeling one especially after you mod it yourself

I daily drove mine for like 4 years the last year of that was lifted 3.5 on 32s I never really kept up with cost, then I got in a wreck and bought a honda to drive in the down time and driving the honda I was just like hear use Christ this is so much cheeper. I'm still working on my jeep and its nice that's not my daily drive cause now I have it tore down to build everything right and have it really nice. I love my jeep to death and ill probably still drive it a lot when I finish things up and to haul my dirt bike and four wheeler. It's an expectable daily driver in stock form and even lifted but the cost of gas makes it impractical, adding a honda to my insurance cost me nearly 10 dollars a month more so I'm totally happy with my current set up. But if all u have is a jeep, bee good to it and it won't let u down, and it will sieve u well. Just my .02 cents.

I agree completely. Once you get to a certain point it just becomes cheaper to use another vehicle as a dd. I don't however see the slightest problem with dding an xj that is in good shape or preferably stock. Stock xj would actually be awesome as a dd in my opinion. And as far as mpg my opinion was always that if u like what u drive it hurts less to pay to fill it up.

I had a 87 merc that I sold once then baugt back and recently sold. I regret it already. One who had no pre 90s merc does not know what reliable means. I mean even the headrests and electric and heated seats still worked. Never replaced one part and had it total of four years. Sold at 195k. It will go till half mil.
For someone who commutes 25 miles each way
12000 miles a year
and gets 15MPG, he will spend $3250 in gas, at $3.90/gallon
If he got 30MPG in a Honda, he'd spend only $1625.
So, it costs an extra $135/mo to drive the horrible gas mileage of an XJ.
The Honda costs $25,000.
A used beater XJ costs $3000.
You can calculate the break even on that extra $135/mo. or $1623/year.

I drive my 2000 daily, I love it. Plenty of space, decent gas mileage, gets me through winter with ease (while other people in their $20,000+ cars get stuck, I just cruise on by), cheap and easy maintenance, and most importantly chicks dig the XJ. Wouldn't think twice about DD it again.

I like daily driving my XJ other than MPG and highway, but I don't care about fuel economy and never take the highway anywhere. Especially in winter since I know it will start and not get stuck in the snow
