I DD my Cherokee 240 miles a week to work and back plus an additional 100 miles taking my son to his sporting events. The XJ has been to Colorado 3 times this year. 1600 mile round trips each time. Not a single problem. It runs great, drives great, and I stay on top of the maintenance. It's more fun to drive than my F250 King Ranch. The XJ is my preferred vehicle to drive!

the low sulphur is one thing, both canada and us have same ppm

but canada diesel has better lubricity standards than usa diesel, so no eggspecting the hpfp failure like the us vw tdi's

i will likely buy a micron filter kit, though...cheap insurance.

Oh I didn't know you were in CA.

Is there something to add to tanks to combat that, or is it just the US market once again screwing everybody for the shareholders?

lotsa off the shelf lubricity additives to solve the issue, but gotta add the right amount, too much of it gums up stuff

and/or buy a micron filter kit

whats happening is the hpfp wears out sending metal thru the entire fuel system, tank, the several fuel pumps, the lines, etc...

get a micron filter kit, itll catch all the particles from the hpfp, saving the rest of the system...so if the hpfp does die, just replace THAT instead of EVERYTHING

Mine used to do that, turns out it was the wheels, got new wheels and problem solved so maybe it's either your wheels out of balance or your tires.

My shudder was only between 55-60mph.

Ah okay. Once I'm gainfully employed again I was planning on getting a diesel daily driver if I can afford it, so I'm interested in how all that works. No more VWs in the house though. Great car but so obnoxious to work on.

"Fun to drive" seems to be a common comment about XJ's, I gotta agree although I can't figure out why these things are so fun to drive.

Let a co-worker borrow my XJ once to go get lunch, 2 weeks later she'd traded in her 99 Explorer for a Compass.

It's like the shift from leaded to unleaded gas. Modern engines will be fine, older ones rely on sulphur for lubrication as many components are diesel-lubed instead of using engine oil, typically injection pumps. I wouldn't be concerned about any engine built in NA in the last 5 years or European diesels the last 10. Some older engines might need help maintaining lubricity via additives. Shouldn't be a problem if you do your homework and play it safe.

Ahhh, makes sense why I've only seen it talked about in certain situations like older trucks, or older diesel sedans!

Well if they're old enough just run WMO in with the diesel. Problem solved lol (make up for the savings in fuel filters though... hehehe)

The funny thing is she parks next to her friend at work that has a Dodge Caliber, she doesn't even know it's the same vehicle.
