Keep in mind I had a blast with every one of these xj's and ultimately were all retired from different forms of unibody failure. The black one actually still runs, and I plan on wheeling it again.

I dont see any problem with buying a low mileage xj and turning it into a trail rig. The last thing you want on the trails is engine problens. So why buy an xj with 200,000 miles thats more likely to give you problems out wheelin? Not to mention all the rust on those old rigs. Just sayin....

This right here. I bought a beater xj to heavily mod. When I pulled the carpet in front I found that both floor pans were soft as hell and needed to be replaced. My '86, except for a few small areas of rust I found behind the flares, is as solid as you could ask for a 26 year old Midwest vehicle. So I put the beater on hold and went ahead with the more solid platform.

Exo-frames. I understand the point, but why start with a Cherokee? You've already done 90% of the work to build a custom rock buggy.
Unfinished cut fenders. Looks... unfinished
Tall lifts with small tires.
Removed or cut doors. Why not get a wrangler.
Cut roof. Again, just get a wrangler.
Poorly tuned 4.0L with bad exhaust. Sounds like the unholy spawn of a tractor and a ricer.
Camo paint. Even the army doesn't use camo on jeeps.
Rattle can flat black. My XJ was a lovely medium blue metallic before the PO ruined it.
Stingers. Yes, I know what they are for and how awesome they are, but they look dumb.
And of course BFG TA/KOs

Well, I am assuming in that case that you've already swapped both axles, built custom suspension all around, probably modified your TC, replaced your radiator, added frame stiffeners, HD cross member, replaced the seats, replaced the bumpers, probably upgraded the brake booster, and so on. I order to have a rig worth building a frame for. At that point, a tube chassis and new steering column is about the only thing left.

I just think it's stupid when people take a mint condition XJ, a 3-7 thousand dollar investment, and then beat the **** out of it until it's something I would pay $800 for for no other reason than because the internet said it was cool to cut up the fenders and body damage was cool and bedliner is cool. If you don't think that's stupid, you can keep pissing your money away and I'll keep saving up to build something that can actually take a beating and retain its value.
