I'm driving up an on ramp to cross the river leaving St. Louis. I get about half way up the ramp and throw a belt. Power steering went away immediately. Where I'm at there is no shoulder but I know that if I can crest the top of the bridge I can roll it to a safe spot. So I kept it running for about 1 minute. I watched the temp gauge the whole time. It started to creep up slightly then right as I got to the top of the hill, it spiked sharply. I shut it down immediately.

I get out after pushing for just a bit, open the hood and I no longer have a power steering pulley. My belt is wrapped around the fan.

Now I'm broke down in super sketchy east St Louis waiting for a tow truck.

I'll get a better picture of the power steering pump when I get home. I never heard any whining or lost any fluid from the pump. Can i just get a new pulley? I really don't feel like putting a new box in.

Luckily my fan shroud isn't broken.

Pretty sure the pump is seized. Won't spin free and the splines are shot.

Where do people get pumps? Should I go Mopar?

Well that sucks! Rockauto.com probably the best/cheapest place to find a new powersteering pump.

If you are trying for a local shop - just grab one from Napa or something.

Otherwise, get one from RockAuto or Ebay for like 1/3 the price. Mopar is going to be pricy if they even still have that part in production.

I hope you got lucky because lack of maintenance and that right there is how they die. Usually by the time that silly inaccurate/slow as molasses in January gauge reacts the cylinder head is already smoked.

Thanks man!

In all honesty, I'm pretty sure my head ticket has been punched anyway. I've been saving to replace my head for a few months now. No overheating, no loss of coolant, nothing like that. But I have a persistent misfire on 3&4. I haven't done a compression or leak down test but I did have my oil analyzed by black stone labs and they confirmed coolant in the oil.

Sucks. I've spent most of my money on this jeep in maintenance. Could have had gears and lockers for the money I've put into this thing in unexpected maintenance.

I have been running a junkyard P/S pump on my ZJ for over four years without a problem. I got my 15 bucks out it by now.

JY pump is a solid option if you dont have a pulley installer. but new pumps are not that expensive for these cars nor is the pulley.

any quality rebuilt pump should give you many good years of service.

"Quality" is the operative word. Do not get a Cardone rebuilt pump. They're junk. I went thru three of them before getting one that didn't leak.

Went with a Napa reman. I think BBB industries made it? All they had were plastic pulleys too. Rented a pulley press drop autozone.

So about 3 hours of working/running to the parts store and $100 and is running again. Thanks for all the help.

I'm not close to many junkyards and time was of major concern. Once again thanks for the advice.
