2014 Jeep Cherokee
Articulation isn't everything. Technology can make up for the lack of flex in a big way..... I'm guessing you have never wheeled with a patriot before.

I saw an Acura RDX today and was shocked...looked like an overgrown Mini Cooper..All I could think was "why???"
Keep in mind also mileage requirements are across the board for all the models together so if you want to come out with something that doesn't sip gas anymore--like the new 225hp festiva...you need to cut back someplace else.

Even IF a Patriot could out-perform the XJ off road... it will never be as reliable. I guarantee if that anyone here had a Patriot and treated it how they treat their XJ's, it die an early death.
You have zero experience wheeling a patriot, and yet you have already made up your mind.
Suspension travel is not the same thing as articulation. IFS/IRS has its place off road, such as high speed applications in the desert or dunes. But for rock crawling, not to mention everyday strength and reliability, solid axles win. Ever hear a CV when the boot tears and it packs with mud? Happened to my brothers Blazer.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee is and always has been the replacement of the Cherokee. That's a fact! Back in 1992 our venerable Cherokee WAS REPLACED. It was only left around by popular demand, Hence minimal to no changes or upgrades were made. Deal with it ladies!
