Thats how mine was when i got it im not sure if i have any pics of it but the PO drilled holes in the front of the unibody and then plas cut some in the bumper and used 1 inch thick by 2 inch tall by 6 or 8 inches long it wasnt a very strong setup imo. If you just want the d-ring look it would be fine but i wouldnt rely on it.

I would be more than happy to build you a front bumper like mine minus the stinger for Way cheaper than a name brand one. Check out either one of my builds

I thought i would do something different.
Honestly I have mixed thoughts about the diamond plate as well. Thing is it was not that cheap. But the bumper was built from scratch though.

I HATE diamond plate, but I think that actually looks good and suits your Jeep well.

Here's the one I just built, had to move so put off finishing it until next week. Gotta cut the fairlead and d-ring holes and I'm mounting a 20" stinger on it.

I used scrap c-channel and 2x4 tube to build the corners out, the winch bed is 2x6x1/4 tube

This is the structure that lurks behind my stock OE bumper. The main tube sits flat against the backside of the bumper. The 3/8" thick frame plates reinforce the frame horns and steering box mounting area.
