Do you happen to have a drawing of those awesome plates?

Man that's an awesome backbone, I also want to use the stock bumper capped but reinforce it from behind and and some D-Rings through the front of it.

You don't happen to have the measurements for that setup do you? I need a little help getting an idea of how long/wide everything should be. And do the plates reinforcing the steering box do the same that most aftermarket bumpers do like strengthening the unibody?

No sorry, no drawing. After I built the structure behind the OE bumper rail I used a pair of jack stands to hold the bumper up in posision and I made a cardboard pattern from the side of the frame rail extending it forward enough to wrap around the main tube of the bumper. Then I transfered the pattern onto the plate of steel and used a band saw to cut the plates out.

Thanks!

I started by removing my bumper, cutting the 1 1/2" X 2" X 1/8" tube to the same length as the OE metal bumper rail, then bent it to the same ark as the OE bumper rail. I added the angle pieces on top and some plates on the bottom for mounting, and capped the ends. My bumper thumper (grill gaurd) mounts directly to the angle peices on top and the plates on the bottom sandwiching the OE bumper rail between. Between the structure behind the bumper and the frame plates it defiantly strengthens the steering box mounting area and front frame horns!

How much does it weigh. Or how much more than all the stock that was removed...

I didn't weigh it, but if I were to guess I would say 40-45 Lbs. was added not counting the bumper thumper (grill gaurd). The added strength is well worth the added weight though. I'm sure the guy with the Toyota pickup that backed into me fairly hard would agree. Bent his rear bumper and tailgate pretty good, but only scratched the paint on my grill gaurd. He was pissed!!!

Funny you bring that up. I have owned about 20 different full size trucks and 3 other small vehicles for mileage/commute. All three of the cars got rearended, and not a even door ding on any of the trucks!!

Looks like good work. The sides look good to me, it's the corner that's the issue. Adding a 45 degree angled piece from the front piece to the sides instead of the straight 90 might make you happier with it?

Default Rear Bumper

Here is one I built for my truck. I'm thinking about doing something similar to this to replace a rusty one on a Cherokee we are getting for my wife. This one is 1/4" square tubing welded together and capped on the end. I have hit trees with it and all it did was scratch the paint. I also tow boats, motorcycle trailers, a car dolly, etc. It has proven to be very strong. You can't see it all in the pics but it is gusseted and reinforced at the hitch and the bumper brackets. The gussets at the hitch also have the safety chain holes, The small chain you see in the pick was welded in just for looks. I was playing around with a new welder trying to see what I could do with it.

And before you say it....I know, I know, it's a Toyota not a Jeep. I like em both and we soon will have a Cherokee too. But you can't load a motorcycle or a lawn tractor in a Jeep so I'm keeping this too. lol
