I posted a thread on this and didn't get much response so I'll ask here. I want to take my 95 not registered trail rig and tare it down and make a street legal buggy. My goal is the safety, lose weight, and not be restricted by wheel wells. I will have to make a removable flair to cover the top of the wheel. But I don't know all the laws were can I find them? I live in Wisconsin and have tried there website, and have talked to cops and state truppers. Please help.

Well since this is hear I mind as well throw this out there, My 1998 Cherokee SE has rotted rocker pannell's and ive been wondering what a cheap easy way to fix them is. Im just not going to drop $150 for some rocker pannells because it dosent seem worth it to me. I was considering boat sides but im not sure, anyone have any solutions?

You're gonna get really familiar with a wire wheel and your drill. I'd suggest finding all the rust you have going on while you're at it, clean it to bare metal, give the underside several coats of rustoleum spray paint and then a coat of rubberized undercoating.

I would NEVER EVER pull somebody else out who had d-rings that were face welded to a bumper, I'm not gonna chance risking my life or someone elses by trusting welds that someone else made.
Do everyone a favor and get a pair of these: http://www.ajsoffroadarmor.com/produ...cat=256&page=1
Then you can weld them all the way down the frame plate and know that they're not going anywhere.

I would, but I'd wrap a strap around your bumper.
Are those d-ring tabs strong enough to be used for recovery? Probably.
Am I willing to take that chance? No.
I've had a recovery point let go before on someone I was pulling out, I was using a ****** strap and thankfully the hook hit my rear hatch and didn't go through the window and hit me. It all but put a hole in the hatch.
After having that happen once, I'm not going to chance it happening again.

Too, when it comes to being pulled out, if someone is gonna have to back up and get a running shot to get me out, ill just pull myself out with the winch.

whatever you do I hope you have access to a welder. Have you looked into rock rails? I'd look at that as your best option.

Im very familiar with a wire wheel and drill and I know how to use both well. I personally dont have acess to a welder but Im going to take it in to my Shop class when I get my front axle and other parts together and do it there. I was going to buy some of that rust stoper rustoleum, ive already got a can and its nice, Ive used it on my hitch for my 99 and it seems to work well. But wouldnt 7 coats be a bit excessive? I dont have much cash and when I do its going strait to the parts it needs to get it road worthy agian. I wanted to take care of the rust so I didnt have to deal with it spreading over the course of the next few years.

I know and id go do it in the garage tomorrow if i could but theres an all white camaro sitting next to it and the chances of overspray are way to great lol. So ill have to wait awhile and I know I have to attack it agressivly but im just trying to find the best way to go about fixing it. Its also bubbling where the plastic entry guards are on top of the rockers so Im trying to figure out how to fix all of it propperly to theres something underneath the bottoms of the doors as well. I can take pictures if itd help anyone with finding the best way to fix this problem.

the best way I can think of: Wire wheel/3m paint & rust removing wheel. Get it down to bare metal and take off all the paint within 1" of the nearest visible rust, then paint. I'd also remove the thresholds and check those also.
Your rockers are gonna be the biggest issue.

I have the tarp so maybe ill just throw that over it then, just didnt want to damage the paint on it or anything. Isnt a rust removing wheel just a wire wheel? and if you dont mind me asking what a threshold is? Im sorry if its a noob question but I havent dont Alot of body work, just minor things.
its not, from what I've heard they work a whole lot better than a wire wheel, I'd say having both is a good idea.
THIS:
The threshold of the door is the plastic thing on the "floor" of the door thats held down by a philips head screw.
its a common term for whatever piece of trim is on the floor part of a door.

If the tarp is just put over it it wont hurt anything.
