FYI WD40 will do jack squat as a "penetrant". Use PB Blaster or something.
Thank you for your response. It did help. I've attached a picture so you can see what I'm talking about. Do you still recommend the insulated needle nose pliers?

Sorry I thought the bulb broke off, but same applies, Use needle nose pliers to grab the little tab left then turn it.

I'll try that. I'm concerned that the small bit of tab left is so brittle that it will just break off like the larger piece did. The sockets are really hard to turn. After I get the socket out, I'm going to try purchasing a new one that might be easier to turn. Thank you again for your help.

If it does break use channel lock pliers on the outside edge or a small hammer and chisel

Default 97 grand cherokee cranks wont start no spark

went out to the 97 grand cherokee v6 4.0 2wd wont start mechanic thought it was the fuel pump replaced that along with crank shaft sensor still wont start replaced cpm works good but catalytic converter needed replace so that was also done.A month later it starts loosing power randomly at highway speeds and almost immediately regains power. had the alternator checked and they said a part inside it was going bad replaced the alternator. few days later still having this loss of power sometimes happening at stop lights and loosing all power but i turn the engine back on and it runs. Cleaned out throttle body replaced spark plugs still having issues. Take it to the dealership they say ignition coil, tps sensor , and crankshaft need to be replaced from the code reader they had when they took it out on the highway. I replaced all three still having issues. Drove it to work got there fine leave work it will crank but not turnover checked and there's no spark not sure what else to do any help appreciated

There's a rubber o-ring around that bulb holder that dries out and makes it tough to turn. A little penetrating oil will help make it soft again. All the bulb holders are the same so I'd get some from the junkyard. You notice that big 90782 painted on them? Just find some the same number. Just check them for signs of melting inside.

Default front end noise

I have a 1988 Cherokee and a 1999 Grand Cherokee that both have clunking noise in the front end. The 88 will get a bd wobble from time to time but not often and I dont want the 99 to get that far gone. I want to fix them both but dont know which parts are going bad, they all look ok. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

What action coincides with the cluck? A bump, steering, shifting into drive or reverse, or applying brakes?

It doesn't clunk very often just whenever going over small bumps in the road or turning around in a small confined area that's for the 99 and 88 doesn't clunk hardly at all ever but it has got the wobble after going over a bump at a higher rate of speed but not very often on that either

Being this is the GC thread.. Lets keep it at that...

Your clunks are something worn out somewhere that you need to inspect. Control arms is a good place to start.. ball joints etc.

This thread is for all those who would like to ask something tech related and don't want to start a new thread or hijack someone elses, and for all those tech related questions you happen to ask in the big off topic threads. Me and some of the older members will answer every kind of question as long as it is TECH and polite.
P.S. for the newbs: stupid questions don't exist, there are only stupid answers. Feel free to ask whatever you want. "What is a Jeep?" is a good question....

If your question is very common (eg: lift) please DO A RESEARCH FIRST and if you don't find the answer come back here, 75% of the questions can be answered within a 5/10 min browse using the "SEARCH" button on the black banner menu.

Hi all,
I’m praying someone can give me some advice, I’ll try not to ramble...

I bought this Jeep for $700 and I knew I could expect some issues. It’s just for my son to get to high school maybe 6 miles from our home.

After a couple of days, it started cutting off randomly while going down the road. A small garage put new O2 sensors on and it stopped cutting off. Only now, there’s a loud clicking, bad fume smells? Exhaust? Idk. While driving highway speeds, it’s smooth but once I’ve driven around at these speeds, and I come to a stop sign - while I have my foot on the brake, it starts reving up and jerking and then when I press the gas, the rpms move to like maybe 2 but it doesn’t move and there’s loud banging and then all of a sudden it lunges forward forcefully.

When It’s been parked a while and you get to a stop sign, it doesn’t act like that. It’s only after driving a little while and I stop or slow my speed considerably. I’ve been afraid for him to drive it so he’s driving my car and I’m driving the Jeep everyday to work.

I’ve been told it’s the “lifters” on the engine and also it’s the header or something.

Dave will be along as soon as he gets back on. He is the Grand Cherokee expert. He has battle one for a long time and knows every nut and bolt.
