you guys know some tricks to get the fan shroud off? Or the whole clutch fan assembly? We're trying to replace the water pump.

Also, I found an unconnected switch stinking out from underneath the coolant overflow, does anyone know what that is? And last but not least the coolant overflow hose is not connected to anything. Is that supposed to be like that?

Okay, easy things first. There is a low coolant warning float switch in the coolant reservoir. I'm assuming this is your "switch." There is supposed to be a hose from the reservoir to the radiator cap flange. When the coolant expands, the cap releases it and it flows to the reservoir. When it cools down, the cap opens a valve and it flows back into the radiator.

On my 97, I had to dismount the shroud and slide it back over the fan, then take the bolts out of the fan and lift the 2 out together. Some people have cut the shroud in half after they got it out and mounted sheet metal plates with screws on the side so they could take just the top 1/2 off the next time. If you are going to do that, use hex head sheet metal screws so you can use a 1/4 socket. There ain't no room for a screwdriver!

ONE THING!! I hope you bought a water pump with a METAL impeller. There is only 1/16" between the impeller and the first cylinder barrel. With worn bearings, a plastic impeller can strike it and shatter. You'll NEVER get all the pieces out of the water jacket.

OK, so I just replaced my driverside front wheel hub. No issue. But now The ABS light came on, the traction control light came on and my cruise control has stopped working. Any ideas?

Rear hatch actuator isn't working. I want to test the 4 wire plug that it uses. However, I cant find any info on the pin out / voltages etc. Does anyone have a link or just know this answer?

Thanks

I want to remove the 3.73 carrier from my ZJ D30 to use on my XJ D30 when I regear. Can I simply remove it and leave the axles in with(maybe without) diff fluid so that the ZJ is still driveable? Definitely won't be going hwy speeds but might be nice for someone if they want to buy it for the engine or tranny to be able to drive it on a trailer or somewhere close in town.

you would have to leave the stub shafts on so the hub bearings won't fall apart. Remove the inner shafts

V8 Zj so CVs. Can I just leave the inner shafts in? Then dust and stuff can't get in either.

The seals wouldn't support them enough?

Lol no. That 5mm of Viton is no match for a wildly-flailing 20 lb chunk of steel.

Take the CV apart and remove the inner shaft.

Does anyone have the part #'s to convert the 4.0L WJ mechanical and electric fan to the upgraded 11 blade fan clutch? My electric one died and so my A/C is not happy.

I seen the post, but I was confused on the different clutch listed with the 11 blade fan. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WJ didn't have mechanical fan on the 4.0 from the factory

Nope. It had a pulse relay controlled electric fan, controlled by the PCM that basically made it 2 speed. When the A/C was on, it ran at high speed all the time. The reasoning behind that was a clutch fan draws too much horsepower off the engine and doesn't pull enough air at low vehicle speed to properly cool. To make matters worse, the V8 had a HYDRAULIC powered fan that ran off the power steering pump! If you have a clutch fan, someone added it. Here's a picture of where the pulse relay is;

The problem with today's cars is the cooling systems are designed to JUST cool adequately when everything is right, with no reserve. My 57 Chrysler had a 28 quart cooling system capacity! That's 3 1/2 gallons of full strength anti-freeze!

I bought this 2k WJ used. So not sure about the stock fan. But it currently has the 5 blade fan with clutch + the electric fan. The electric fan is dead, the control module and the rest of the A/C system is fine. I have already tested it. I just wanted to know if i can use the same clutch on the 5 blade fan, with the 11 blade fan.
