Grand Cherokee Ask the Question Thread
Hello, I am trying to help my nephew. He has a '93 Grand Cherokee 4x4 w/ 4.0 and an automatic transmission that is having some sort of major issues.
He has located a complete non-running '93 Cherokee 4x4 w/ 4.0 and a manual transmission near by. Will the transmission, transfer case, slave cylinder, pedal assemblies, etc work on this Grand Cherokee?
Looks like you all excel at being helpful around here. I would appreciate and pass on any input.
Thanks!

First of all, welcome to CF!
Oh....a major operation! I don't see any major problems with getting it bolted together, but you may have problems with the electronics. You may need the computer from the Cherokee as well. As long as you have both vehicles to work with, it shouldn't be an insurmountable project. I could be wrong, but I don't think there were any stick shift ZJs ever made.
I'm sure somebody else will correct me on this. Good luck with this. You may need a custom rear driveshaft or something.

Not familiar with the ZJ ECU, but it's pretty similar to an XJ: The ECU will still think that the TCU is supposed to be there and throw codes. Or if you leave the TCU intact it'll complain about there not being any solenoids connected, etc. some folks get a weird idle. The guaranteed fix is to move over the computers too. Again not sure how an OBD-I ZJ ECU will behave.
We are about to try to tow our 2007 Grand Cherokee Laredo and may either do wheels down or just the front on a tow dolly. Im concerned that its an automatic transmission and I may need a pump, can anyone help me answer this question?? Thanks

Jeep did make the wk 2wd and 4x4 with some kinda shifter/**** those are why you can buy the tow brackets for it.But in your case like said your kinda stuck flat bed towing it.
