Any help would be appreciated a pretty good car guy but this one really has me stumped

Default 1998 Grand Cherokee Laredo Transfer Case

I just bought a 98 Laredo, and the speedometer doesn't work. I took it to a mechanic and they said the whole transfer case is missing or messed up or something. They said it'd be 2k to fix that. What kind of transfer case does this vehicle need/use. Google was very confusing when I tried looking it up

Default 2004 Grand Cherokee Lareado no start

Hello I am new to Jeeps and especially the WJ. We run diesels on the farm. The niece brought me her Jeep to fix a window and door issue. As she pulled into my shop it started to run rough and the it just died and could not get it to start again. I did the key on off thing 3 times to get the codes. first time around I got the TPS sensor and a vac leak code. Put new TPS sensor on and found the vac leak.. But it still won't start. Just cranks away. Pulled the codes again and got P1489 and P1490 rad fan relay circuit. so I swapped the relays around no go. checked fuses they are all good.checked the wiring harness as best I could without pulling battery tray and power panel. Her WJ is a 4.0 with a manual fan and an electric fan. Is fan toast? Could the electric fan giving up on these really stop vehicle from starting?
Any suggestions where I should go next. she's got my diesel till this is fixed so soon then later would be ideal.
Thankyou

2000 WJ Ltd 4.7L w/130K miles. I started getting vapors from heater vents last fall. I blamed it on week-long periods of disuse in the garage. As the weather got colder, calls for heat fogged the windshield. The carpets were dry and there was no wet spot on the garage floor (checked/monitored regularly). Heated seats kept me from freezing on the few winter days when I drove it around - I am so grateful for those cushy heated soft leather seats.

Fast forward to Spring and thoughts of kayaking and fishing and overheating in traffic jams when heading to summer fun destinations...

Of course, the wife says I should get a new car - YIKE$ - this one owes me nothing and I can't touch that kind of expense. As much as I wanted to do all my own repairs as I always did with my 99 XJ, reality set in, and I admit I'm older and less flexible and my aches and pains hurt more than they used to. I realize that life's too freakin' busy and I have no bandwidth for spending my free hours upside-down & bent over backwards pulling the seats, console, column, dash and all of what's involved, and especially because replacing a heater core in this WJ model has so much more that can go sideways as compared to that of the XJ core replacement. Trust me, I studied the factory manual as I always do before considering a task this large and laborious.

I decided that I would allow someone else at a reputable shop to do the repair (quoted at $750 plus parts/materials) and I'm nervous as hell worrying about what can go wrong, but I'm committed to getting it done, so I brought it in yesterday. In talking to the shop owner, he mentioned that the smell could be coming from the passenger compartment air filter which set-off the idiot light in my brain. That little warning was when the nervous-worries began and I didn't want to argue that this vehicle doesn't have one because he's a Jeep specialist. I went back to the factory manual to confirm there is no passenger compartment air filter. Keeping my fingers-crossed for luck until next week. Does your WJ have a passenger compartment air filter?

Default pre-03/2000 steering shaft?

2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.7, manufactured in Canada 12/99. Intermediate steering shaft is clicking at the sealed u-joint. Shaft appears to be unavailable from anywhere, except for post-03/2000. NAPA doesn't even list a part for 1999 Grand Cherokee, jumps from 1998 to post-03/2000.

Now what?

Default 97 Grabd Cherokee 4.0 won’t start after rebuild

Ok. So, I’m totally stumped on this one. I’ve rebuilt several engines in the past and not has a problem. On this 97 4.0 I completely rebuilt the block and heads. New crank, cam, valves, springs, pistons, rings etc.

I’ve timed and re timed this thing- checked every timing make 50 times it seems.

I cant seem to get it to run. It hits but when I pull the plugs they are wet and some are black and wet.

I have new plugs, new wires, new coil, verified the grounds, new distributor, new rotor button and cap etc.
plugs fire white.

New fuel pump and screens. Ran pressure test it’s at constant 50 lbs.

Checked injectors- they hit 12.7 or so on the meter.

checked compression- anywhere from 90- 120 lbs per cylinder which I assumed was ok since the new rings haven’t really seated yet. We actually added a cap full of oil to the plug hole to help build compression.

There is gas in the oil I recently noticed I assumed was from the one slightly leaky injector. I pulled the injectors and rail and they all fire at the same time. Unplugged all the injectors and turned over for several seconds. Sprayed ether in intake. Nothing.

Block and head pressure tested fine.

What the heck is going on? What am I missing?

Total Newbie.
Thanks in advance. I'm here trying to help my Daughter with her 2014 Grand Cherokee V6 that just took a dump on her this morning. The thing will not go out of park, and the engine will turn off but the power to the radio etc will not turn off when the button or the fob is pushed. Also, the service four wheel drive is flashing and service air suspension is flashing. Non of this was happening when she parked last night. Where do we even start? Thank you so much for any help you can provide. Peace, Jim and Jessica

I hope I have posted in the correct spot.. If not, please forgive me. Again, Thanks in advance.

Default Transmission slipping when cold outside

Now that it is getting cold outside my trans is slipping in first gear. I need a TPS switch, this might be interfering with the transmission. Once it warms up to op temp it seems ok.

Hi Guys . Need some help ! My Vic comes on a few seconds after Key off . and drains the Battery .. It happened in the spring and I think it could have been rain water some where .. Now its back ... and driving me crazy .. Its minus 30 outside .. so have to get the old girl in the garage and light the wood stove and warm her up...In the spring I dried it out and never came back .... Not sure if its my BCM ... When I turn off the truck a few seconds later I hear a clicking sound from the dash , around the heater Box then the VIC comes on .. Plus know and then My Airbag lights comes on Dont thing its the clock spring or bad connection near bumper ... I know that my Vic has been doing the usual bad coolant sensor but that goes away and rear brake light flashing ,,, Plus my rear Defrost stopped working , will check fuses ... Going to do a voltage drop test on the battery and start pulling fuses ,, But Im think Bad BCM ... Or maybe the Ignition switch .... I could be wrong .. would like a expert advice on what to do .. Thank Guys . Cheers

Default 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trunk Lock Button

Newbie here, but I hope this is a good place to post this.

I have a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (only owner). For a while now, my trunk lock button has not worked. Does anyone have any suggestions/schematics, and if so, a place to get any necessary replacement parts. Or does anyone happen to know a Jeep expert in northern NJ that might be interested in taking a look to fix it? My very amateur guess is that it's something electrical keeping it from working, but I don't really know.

Default 2004 Jeep grand cherokee replacing manual seat with power.

I have a 2004 jeep grand Cherokee and wanted to replace the seas with the seats coming out of a grand Cherokee overland. Once I came to the passenger seat I realized it was manual not power, however, I realized the power harness was there already. I did connect the power harness to the seat coming out the overland but is not working. Any idea what I should do next?

If yours came without power seats then it probably came without power seat fuses (or related) installed. Check the owners manual for socket locations of power seat fuses/relays/jumpers/etc. or other connectors.
It's always a good idea to clean the old and previously unused connectors/connections, grounds, sockets and corresponding circuit links with electrical/electronics cleaning spray. Install and/or connect where missing or unconnected.
