Default 2001 jeep grand cherokee power steering problems

Hello all, im pretty new to the mechanic world but I replaced the radiator in my 2001 jeep grand Cherokee 4.7l v8 limited and now im having problems with my power steering. so it all went well and I filled it up with coolant and bled the system and topped up the power steering fluid, but i forgot to bleed the power steering before starting it up and going for a test drive. at first everything worked great but after i parked it and went to drive again there was zero power steering (not making any noise) and the radiator fan stopped working so it would over heat even idling. so then i bled the power steering by lifting the front end and rotating the wheel back and fourth getting a lot of bubbles out but still nothing, not sure what to do from here. any help would be appreciated thanks.

From your (not-too-clear) description of actions and events, it seems that the fan and all might not be not spinning as they should.

Was the serpentine fan belt missing, removed or loosened during radiator removal/replacement? Recheck the spinny parts, pulleys and belt tension.

Review these two tables copied (text only, not format) from my WJ Service Manual...hope you can figure it out.

BINDING AND STICKING CONDITION POSSIBLE CAUSE CORRECTION DIFFICULT TO TURN WHEEL STICKS OR BINDS 1. Low fluid level. 1. Fill to proper level. 2. Tire pressure. 2. Adjust tire pressure. 3. Default 2004 grand Cherokee power steering issued

Hello everyone,

I’ve come to acquire a 2004 grand Cherokee with the 4.7. The car had minor issues that needed to be fixed.

The cooling system / power steering is giving me a hell of a time. I’ve never seen this system before !

The pump was dripping a little along with one line so I pulled it apart and replaced everything. Since I’ve done that it’s building up pressure and blowing off the small lines coming from the reservoir.

I have replaced the pump with a Napa reman pump and their lines. The 1/2 in line keeps leaking at the fan i cannot get that to stop. I did put the o ring on.

I just recently order a Haynes repair manual off eBay, maybe it will give me some insight.

as I read around online it seems I need to use mopar power steering fluid. I was using Valvoline. I will correct that. It seems there is a process to bleed the system?

I am wondering if I got bad parts from Napa? I was thinking about going to a scrap yard to find oem replacement parts or from someone online here.

any advice on how to correct this issue would be awesome.

I did try to search online but I’m having trouble finding anything. ( I’m sure this place is loaded with information)

Please help!!!

Well I ended up swapping to a 4.0 pump and line. I got rid of that dumb fan setup and got a used 04 explore 4.0 fan. Works great !!!! I have no idea why jeep would make a hydraulic nightmare like that. I believe in keeping it simple.

Default parrking brake cable q

hello, 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo. The rear left parking brake cable broke, I replaced it (just that side), replaced pads on that side (because I had it all apart anyway to get at the actuator) , pads on the other side look good. pads on both sides are adjusted to be as tight as I can get them without rubbing, but when I apply the brake lever (on the floor) the E brakes dont hold well enough. I assume the cable has stretched, and I know I should probably replace the entire thing, but its such a pain, you have to remove everything inside the cab, listed as a $1400 job.... Is there any user hack anyone has found for taking up a bit of slack on the cable? there doesnt seem to be any cable adjustment other that the star wheels on the brake assembly. help Please! thanks to all.

Default 2016 jeep grand cherokee 3.6 75th anniversary electrical issues

my wife's 2016 jeep grand cherokee is having some crazy electrical issues. This may all be unrelated but around a year or so ago the preset seat functions stopped working. And now the headlights are acting crazy. The running lights come on but the low beam do not. And if you try to turn on the high beams, both the high beam and running lights go off. All the fuses and relays are good best I can tell. I will say as far as electrical issues I do not have much experience. Can anyone help with this issue?

Default Will a 2000 4.7 plug right in to a 2004 wj?

Just a quick question for yous guys who knows.
I have a 2004 WJ with a 4.7L with a dropped valve seat. I have a buddy who has a wrecked 2000 with a 4.7 in it. Will that 2000 motor plug in as a replacement engine to my 2004 WJ? if not, what adjustments would I have to make? How about just the heads? Will they work on the 2004 motor? Eigth digit on the vin is N.

Well if it's the 4.0....they had a weak transmission in the Grand Cherokee's. A few people I know got at most 120k and then had to replace the transmission. Ours crapped out just before 100k.

Default WJ Front Axle CV Boots Exploded!

I suppose I should call this a lucky find, but it just doesn't feel all that lucky (ifyaknowhatimean). I parked the WJ with the steering locked fully to the left the other day and upon returning, the sun angle drew my eyes into the right front wheel well. I found...first the right one...and then the left...both had exploded CV boots and the grease was deposited up across the tops of both wheel wells in a predictable "sling" pattern! The boots were intact just two weeks ago because I had been underneath the front end inspecting steering components and greasing my ball joints (which need replacing as they also no longer hold the grease). Could both of the boots have swelled and exploded from driving during the heat wave? Maybe water had been trapped inside the boots - but into both of them at the same timeframe? What the hell else could have caused it? So now, I'm not sure if I should extract the axles to inspect the CV/U-joints and, if they are okay then just replace the boots, or if I should outright order and replace with all new front axles CV shafts. Grrr..., this was not part of the front end plan/budget.

Default Fuel pump wiring

Does anyone posses a wiring diagram or so something similar to wire the fuel pump to a switch that way I can cut off if accidents happens.

P.S. for the newbs: stupid questions don't exist, there are only stupid answers. Feel free to ask whatever you want. "What is a Jeep?" is a good question....
