Default Emissions charcoal

Quick question for anyone that can help, I have a 97 zj 4.0 and I'm wondering if I need to keep my charcoal canister for my emissions control. I live in illinois so I don't have to worry about emissions testing, and with my trimmed bumper it's in the way, was going to remove it and plug the vacuum lines to it and was wondering what side effects it may cause.

Put a scanner on it and see if it has emission monitors in the PCM. If not, I wouldn't worry about it. In NY a pre-2000 model can have up to 3 monitors "not ready." Newer models are only allowed 1.

Confused, I live in Illinois and have emission testing every year. Any vehicle after 1995 needs to be test.

Smog testing or not is left up to the county you live in.Big cities will while small ones won't at all.OP you can always move up http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/b...nister-564478/

I was going to say, it can go anywhere. The one on my WJ is in front of the brake booster.

i have the same issued and someone had told me to turn it sideways to keep it up out of the way. here in Kalifornia we have an aggressive smog program so I cannot simply re-route vent lines.

I'll just put this out there.

Removal or modification of Federal emissions equipment is against Federal law, and talk of it here is against CF rules. Doesn't matter if you have local testing or not, bottom line here is discussion of it on the site is not allowed. Thanks for understanding.
