I had to cancel my CO trip last minute, pretty bummed about that... I just have a lot on my plate with a baby coming soon and some BS at work that could be no good...

I got some new tires. 35-12.50-15 KM2's. I like them a lot, they ride nice. And look a lot better then my AT's I was running. only pic I have.

I was doing my alignment and noticed my steering gear box is leaking. had someone turn the wheel back and forth for me while I watched it. looks like its my binding while turning problem, have about 1/8th-1/4" of play while under load from side to side... so the Durango box swap is coming up soon. My gear box is also most likely my super hard turning problem while in 4wheel drive.

Yeah I knew it was coming but didn't expect yet lol. I know 4-5 people who run them and love them, so i have a good feeling I will too. but will report back after I actually wheel them.

So I got my steering box swapped with a Dodge Durango box. Love the new box. my 35"s turn super easy now, better then my 31's ever did. could be part because mine had 160K on it, but it made a huge difference.

no pics as I was in a rush after work to get it in. it just bolts in no mods needed. (stolen pic)

Write up for more info - https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/du...-upgrade-3805/

another with the new kicks.... love the look lol

I was out looking for a NP231 case today. no luck... every xj I came up to had a 242, or the 231 was gone lol

But i did get all my half door parts except the door latches, picked up inner handles, wiring harness', window switches ect.

Thanks I like them a lot!

Well I have a project up my sleeves I am trying to pull off. not 100% on my direction yet... I have a 242. It works just fine, But I bought a NP231 transfer case with a teraflex SYE, 2 wheel low kit, and 4-1 tera low box for $200 because the planetary gear set in the 4-1 is making noise. Kinda on the fence about how i want to fix it. I can have teraflex rebuild the T/case for $400 ish and have 4-1, or just grab a JY 231, rebuild it myself for another $100 with all new seals including the case.

This all started because when i go up big climbs my t/case hits my skid a bit. So I am going to clock my T/case up 10 degrees and run a flat belly type skid from my arms back past the case a bit so i can drag it over things, my case will clear it, and I'll have the bigger output from the t/case with the true SYE. So NP231 swap (smaller case, said to be stronger) clocking it up and flat belly, 2 wheel drive low, and hopefully 4-1... but we will see how $$$$ falls for the 4-1, as i don't think I will NEED it, but it would be nice.

so that's why LOL

Will teraflex sell you just the planetary gears and let you rebuild it for less? 231's are pretty simple to rebuild. I actually almost did the same thing as you a few months ago. A guy I wheel with a lot had his teralow 4:1 case burn up the planetaries while we were on a run. He decided to get an atlas 4 speed installed, so I was going to buy his old case off him. I was having a lot of trouble with my transfercase around that time and I was almost sold on the getting a atlas 2 speed to not have to worry about mine ever again. After he told me he had already burnt up the planetery gears on his teralow case two other times when it was under warranty and teralow fixed it, I decided I didn't want to deal with one of those. I figured I would just get a 241OR off a tj rubicon eventually due to the reliability/strength. Good luck though. I would at least fix the teralow box, maybe keep the 2 low part for yourself and resell the rebuilt case once you fix it. They go for 900+ used.

I was also just reading a writeup today on how to clock a transfercase here: http://www.bsfab.net/?p=23 Maybe it will be helpful for you. Sounds like a good idea how thick of metal would you use for the belly skid?
