LAS VEGAS XJ GROUP-----> 1st ROLL CALL.
Driver side ball joints are shot. And this RC track bar is a piece of crap! The spherical rod end is clunking again.
Axle is almost out, just the passenger upper control arm bolt on the axle is holding it in. I will need to cut that one out too.
The drag link I just replaced a couple weeks ago is spinning in the spindle again. Once I get the axle out, I will figure out a way to keep it from spinning. Maybe jam the pickle fork in there or something.
List now includes: new arms, track bar, bushings and ball joints. What fun!

I just got back from the park. Took the kids there and I got to play in the water too.
Saw a lifted tan XJ at Grand Teton and Decatur with Rubicon wheels.
I remember seeing ball joints on Serious Offroad for $50 or so. I think it was his site...
Since I need to replace the ball joints, I will be replacing the front u joints too and maybe install those tube seals from Alloy USA. And I think my passenger hub bearing is shot. That one is harder to turn than the driver side. Both are only a year old too.

I installed spicer ball joints, Got all four(two install kits, one for each side) for 110 at 4 wheel parts, cheapest I could find. as far as u joints do you need 260 or 297s? if you dont have them I would upgrade to 297 shafts if you have them out and toss 760 joints in them. Its worth the upgrade if you are already changing the joints. as far as wheel bearings what brand did you buy? most shops sell cheap models with one year and more expensive models with 3 year warrantys, something to look into so you dont gotta drop 100 bones on new ones.
ball joint part number is D/S706944X ( you will need two of these to do a whole axle) what year is your axle? older models didnt have slipping upper BJs and used split rings to set joint preload. (pre 90 though i have seen some late model knuckles that have them) if you have these you will need a BJ spanner tool like
I bought one at o'reilly auto for $40 but then returned it when I found my knuckles didnt have the rings.

Axle is a 96. Hub bearings are Timken. I get them through work for really cheap. I saw the Spicer ball joints on Serious for $48.50 per side. I think mine are just the standard press in style. No snap ring.

I buy direct from Timken. No warranty but another set is over half off from the auto parts... That will give you an idea of their gross profit.
Is the 297 the larger one? Mine is non ABS

297 is the larger joint. In 96 they started putting them in all of the axles. Unless you are one of the unlucky few who got the last of the small shafts you got big ones. The shaft in the pic is my spare 260 shaft and the joint next to it is a spare 297. You can see the difference. The 760 is obviously the same size as a 297 just a ton stronger as its the successor to the 297

BTW I know who I'm coming to when I need a hub haha

Hood vents look great guys!

I have cut more bolts and metal off this vehicle than I have in my entire life. It's like a tattoo... once you start, you can't stop.
Driver side bolt had to be cut out. Bushing is shot on the axle and even worse at the frame end. Rob, what control arms are you running? Your Jeep flexes a lot with short .
These vehicles are just ****** for punishment. I was thinking the same thing with my second xj. "how many more bolts am I going to have to cut off and drill out????"
My rear shock to body bolts snapped off like twigs.
Saw this thing today, looks a little too good to be true
