So basically im getting hot at idle and everything is full and the antifreeze is as green as it went in... What does this sound like given this info:
No shroud, wont fit with the fan clutch for whatever reason... just wont fit
E fan works and is wired up right via my write up
New er radiator (3 or 4 years old now)
Same age on the water pump
New hoses upper and lower
Fresh coolant and flushes
New fan clutch
I would make that fan shroud fit, I ground the bottom lip off and it slid right over my gigantic clutch.

For the record, mine gets up to 210 idling in 3-5 minutes with a 195* thermostat in 100*+ weather, sometimes it creeps a little past, but always drops back down. I would look at your radiator.

My first thoughts were rad or water pump... and either way im going to a 195 thermo so my heat is warmer this year... still not sure what to do cause it just cools down so quick when i drive and it used to not heat up so fast (like a week ago) with the e fan on but idk whats going on

Cooling down so fast once you get going is what makes me think radiator problems, but I'm no mechanic. That efan isn't blowing more air than say if you were going like 30mph.

Also you say your antifreeze "is as green as it went in". You running a 50/50 mix?

Do you know where the relay or sensor would be on an 88?

If it wasn't so big I'd say keep it, but since it goes way past a xjs rpms scale I would take it off if it were mine.

You say since it's big you would toss a $266 tach? It's going in my beater since my new motor is going to be balanced to 8k.
I'm not looking for a toss it or not. A location is what I'm after.
But you input is valid

I didn't mean toss it I was going for it could be used in a different vehicle. I was always interested in a A pillar mounted teach but never went through with the idea. If your motor will be balanced for 8k then I'd say keep it. Maybe try mounting it on the dash far left of the steering wheel?
