So, correct me if I'm not getting this, but putting NON-conductive grease ( like the so much talked about dielectric grease) ON your contact surfaces is indeed useless, since it might only interfere with contact-conduction but around the connector as a sealant should be fine?

Yep, got it.
So why in G's name do people during the cleanout/rebuild of the NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) dielectric grease on those tiny little copper contacts on little springs (around them and on the edge of the switch I can understand) ?!? That will only have adverse effect on the function of those contacts!

Dielectric grease is great for electrical connections/connectors.
dielectric grease is non conductive and it is an insulator but it is thin enough (low viscosity) that very little pressure is needed to allow metal to metal contact. After there is metal to metal contact the dielectric grease will protect that connection.
I have used dielectric grease on connectors for many years and had excellent results. Here are 2 photos of the measured resistance between two dimes. One with no dielectric grease, the other with a good glob of dielectric grease between the dimes. Almost no difference in resistance.
A couple of links to bolster my position, Permatex's TDS for dielectric grease ("coat both parts"): http://www.permatex.com/documents/tds/Automotive/22058.pdf
And an article from Moab Jeeper:

No I'm in 2wd. It just started doin that a few days ago. i put my lift in a few months ago I dont know if maybe my u-joints are goin finally or not? I thought about the 4wd thing but its not in it so I'm not sure whats goin on..
Is there a recommended off the shelf undercoating for a cherokee? I got an underwash and saw that the underside will need some work soon if I don't get some protection. Thanks
i have a 1990 Cherokee Laredo that has a slight transmission issues. It wont shift into second gear till it hits 30mph. Is this something that is going to require a transmission rebuild/ replace, or can i possibly just replace some RMP sensor that i'm not aware of? *first time jeep owner.
the engine is a type L6, 4.0L (242 CID) if that tells you anything about the transmission.

I got a 98 Jeep grand cherokee limited with the 4.0 and the 42re tranny. She was shiffting fine and then suddenly it wouldnt shift out of first. I changed the tranny oil and filter, also changed the transducer and govenor pressure sensor inside the oil pan. that didnt work so i replaced the sensor toward the back of the tranny and also it had no effect. I finally scanned it with an OBDII reader and it gave me P1762 witch is the governor pressure sensor with i replaced..... im begging to think its actually an electrical problem... ANY IDEAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????????
