Ever since I went wheelin yesterday, my battery has been real week on the gauge. When I start, the gauge jumps up to about 1/4, but then after a minute the needle slowly falls all the way down. My subs will cut off and on like it does when I'm not running, and it sounds week when I start it. A lot of muddy water got under my hood while wheelin..
any ideas about what's going on?

Thanks

Transfer cases usually have a metal label on them

And do you have an auto at manual? Why year?

I had the same issue and out of curiosity, removed the front driveshaft to test drive. It rode like a cadillac--which meant I had some U-joints to replace. might try it.

Ok I need help figuring out where to start. I turn the engine on and the start driving got the lights and radio on but when I turn on the heat the radio goes off if I turn off the lights the radio comes on or if I turn off the heat the radio comes on. I know I'm not getting voltage but my wiring is messed. So should I start under the hood or the dash and should I wait on the CB install because of this.

Default intermittent starts electrical problem

I have had an issue of my 94 xj starting, driving somewhere, then dead when I try to start it back up. I had the starter replaced, but it still does the same thing. I can start it from the starter with a screwdriver. I was told that the ignition switch module? - the one on the steering column was probably bad. I have one on order and should be here soon. My question is that when I took the old one off, I noticed the blue plug that plugs into the module has a purple wire coming out of it and its been hot or burnt. There is smoky discoloration on the female part of it as well as the prong on the module is burnt as well. Is a new module going to fix this or should I be replacing the whole blue plug too. Does anyone know what the purple wire is?

Thanks

Perfect. Love the discussion about the dielectric grease and all the opinions on its use. Links you gave are good and love the " picture evidence". Thanks again!

Hey guys...
I have a 1996 Cherokee 4x4 Sport with the 4.0 L inline 6 (of course!) and automatic transmission.

My tranny is on the way out and I am wondering if anyone can tell me which transmission are a direct bolt on?

- Does 4x2 or 4x4 matter when looking for a transmission?
- What years of trannys will fit my 96?

Thanks for the help!!

Chanz

yes 4x2 vs 4x4 certainly matters - the output is very different

The transmission you have is called the AW4. Any cherokee from years 1991-1996 that is automatic and 4x4 will have the same transmission, and be a 100% bolt in swap.

Default Bored throttle body MPG hit the floor.

I am sure there is a thread about his somewhere so I apologize if this is
repetitive but I put on a bored out throttle body on my 91 4.0L H.O W/3" PVC intake and aftermarket filter. Immediately after my MPG went through the floor. I did reset the computer after the change.

Thank you very much.

the reason it went though the floor is because you reset the computer. That resets the factory Air/Fuel trim settings. The computer needs to relearn what are the proper settings for your truck now. It takes up to 50 start-up cycles for it to do this.

note that in this sense a start-up cycle = full engine warmup (usually about 20-30 minutes of driving).
