I don't know much about the stock deck since mine came with an aftermarket one.
Maybe the deck went bad? The cheapest one at best buy is around $60 plus the install fee ($40?)

If you have rear sound, but not front, I almost guarantee it's your speaker wires. They get pinched/rub in the rubber boot when you open/close the doors. Eventually, the friction wears through and they short or break. I replaced my front speaker wires when i was prepping to install my new speakers, and I was amazed how much difference it made with the stock door speakers working. It's a PITA, but it's probably a simple cut-and-splice job.

Question:
I've been trying to determine which speedo gear I'll need for a 2001 with NP231, 3.55, 33s.
I know I need a shortshaft 30 or 31 tooth gear, but different charts are conflicting. Does anyone have input, or does it not really matter?
