Yes but your method is wrong. You unplug the coil pack and measure across the terminals for resistance (Ohms). How much depends on the year and type. A good service manual will tell you what values to look for.

Hey everyone, Ive got a 90 cherokee 4.0. It started stumbling at WOT at highway speeds, then last week started dying after giving it hardly any throttle.

Ive read up quit a bit on sensors, and narrowed it down to being the map sensor and the TPS. Which those were also the codes I had pulled, 24, 14, and 13.

I replaced the map sensor and TPS yesterday and cleaned my throttle body.
Started it up and let it run for a few minutes and it died. And the same codes are being thrown.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help.

I tried to search for this, but unfortunately "flashing check engine light" doesn't really tell me what I'm trying to figure out. I got in my Jeep today and when I turned the key to start it the check engine light flashed several times. I haven't seen this before and it didn't happen again after I drove it and shut it off. To be clear I wasn't trying to check for codes; I got in the Jeep, turned the key and as I was fastening my seatbelt I noticed the light flashing; it flashed and then went off, did not come back on. It ran as normal after this so what does it mean?

edit: don't know if it matters or not, but '92 XJ base model, 4.0 I6 HO, 5 speed.

After removing the carpet I realized there was no floor, and you could "read thru" about 5" of the sub-frame due to massive amounts of rust. The drivers side was replaced with a 3/16" thick side wall from a small dump truck, and I used the structural beam thru the middle to 'mend' the frame and left the steel plate to rebuild the area between the door jam and tranny tunnel, welded and pop riveted everything together and it's lasted for 3 years! But... took my son out trail riding and found a washed out part of the trail leading up a hill, and seen fairly good sized holes near the top. After 2 attempts to get the Jeep over the top in 2WD, I backed up, locked in the 4WD and hit it again, and with Hells' fury it launched in and out of the holes with a vengence, getting air as it exited. Unfortunately now the shackle block that hold the driver side leaf spring has ripped from the what remained of the sub-frame and floor, jacking the axle back about 1.5". I've used a come-alone to pull it back in place, but is it possible to rebuild this again? I plan to get a 5' piece of thick walled square tubing (2x4) and weld it to the front of the shackle block frame mount, and then weld it to the outside of what remains of the sub-frame. Any thoughts??
Yes it is possible. Jp magazine just did a tech article on bracing the rear leaf mounts about 5 months back. With some creativity and patience it can be done. Good luck!

I believe you some how accidentally did the key trick. It's a way for mechanics and jeep owners to do a self diagnostic test. It tells you a code or more than one code. It will give you codes when your check engine light is on. Search check engine light or key trick and you will understand more. Hopefully you get code #55! Good luck!

Finally got it running. Turned out to be a bad coil. Good to have it back on the road. Thanks for your help!

I have a really quick question.

Anyone have problems towing a small boat with an XJ with I6?

Looking to buy one soon.

Seen a few auto and some manual, don't know what to get.

Boat info is 17' bass tracker. (aluminum)

Thanks.

I've towed a 26 foot car trailer with another xj on it.
Towing a boat should be no problem.
4.0 auto with 389k on it btw
