Probably should have said the lights dim only when you turn the key like usual when you try and start it. I changed the distrubutor and still no crank so I pulled the starter just for fun and it had water in it

So since two of the four channels won't be used, what will happen to the power that would be going through the unused channels? Will it just put out more power to the only two channels running?

Possible or not?? I found this statement on a 'engine swap' thread...

"Cant fit a strait 6 in the earlier cherokees due to fire wall clearence problems"

True or False??

Also, any thoughts on converting to diesel? I know they sold the early Comanches with a 4 banger diesel. Anything like that that would drop in (of course with adapters)??

I guess I would consider a 4 banger gas engine. Any body ever drop in an "Iron Duke" engine out of an 80's Chevy S10?? That would be awesome with the S10 5-speed trans. I can make adapter plates if necessary but rather buy 'em off the shelf if they exist.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
The I6 will indeed not fit without major modifications to the firewall and front support area. I would try and find a later model (91-01) as the early XJs also had the vacuum disconnect Dana30 front axle and the Renix engine management system - neither of which are desirable.

That being said a popular swap for that engine is a GM 60 degree V6 that will basically drop right in...but i don't think it's worth it if it's a vehicle you don't already own.

no. I installed one when when I did my steering box swap though - mounted behind the lower rad support.
