XJ Ask the Question Thread
Does anyone know of a walk through or like a how to on doing crank shaft bearings on a 4.0 motor i just need to know like the the torque specs and what i can expect when i drop the pan..
also would a slightly crushed exhaust pipe cause the check engine light to come on? or i guess that's just a result of the bad bearings
lastly i read a post that said knocking from the bottom side of the motor could be a slightly loose torque convertor ... how likely is that the knocking is super loud and i just don't wanna waste my time doing one thing if its something else the truck idles great no noise or just a slight one then as soon as u hit the throttle it knocks rly loud then higher rpms its gone
any ideas welcome thanx guys

I couldn't find much in a "How too" but that should give you a good start. I don't believe a exhaust would give you an engine light unless it was really damaged and where it was damaged. The exhaust pipes do have oxygen sensors in it so maybe one of those were damaged. Have you ran a scan for codes? For the low end knocking, have you opened up the inspection plate and checked the flex plate bolts? Those can loosen over time and cause a knocking sound.

Just a question about exhaust. From what I have gathered ideally we want 2.25-2.5 diameter on our exhaust pipes correct? I plan on taking care of my exhaust by replacing the CAT and everything back. But my real question is, to achieve the 2.25 diameter am I going to have to replace anything upstream from the CAT? What size are those stock pipes?
I have never done the bearings myself but try this link;

..what happens if i replace my original rear spring(which may not be heavy duty), with the original "heavy duty" I realize that the arch sizes are different, and probably a stiffer ride. But, will they bolt right on?
