Thanks dukie, I think I'll do it when I find time this fall, otherwise it waits till next spring. That was a pic from my phone and it has a cracked plastic lens thing so lights screws it up.

Pinion on the rear axle should be parallel to the transfer case output shaft

I was wondering about that! The sensor looks different than the one i replaced...but it fit so i didn't double check. Thank you

Hey folks, this is my first post here, and I have a couple questions regarding my new-to-me '97 Cherokee SE.

First off, the Check Engine light is on. I was aware of this when I bought it. The previous owner had a diagnostic app on his smartphone that indicated the problem is with the 02 sensor. Could this be as easy as sourcing a new 02 sensor and replacing it myself? Or could this code indicate a number of possible problems?

My second question is about adding a roof rack. There are no rack/rails of any kind. Is it possible to have these installed? I would really like to be able to mount some kind of roof top cargo box for a long trip I am planning.

Thanks!

Depends - you have two of them. Need the specific code(s). Most any auto parts store will read the codes for free. Report back so we can help further.

Doh. I didn't take note of the specific code, but I will post up again when I can get it.

Thanks for the info.

The PO did say that he already replaced the sensor at the exhaust, and that it's probably the sensor at the engine. Does this make sense?

Both sensors are in the exhaust. The PO is referring to the precat (upper) sensor which is below the exhaust manifold. That is the one they said they hadn't replaced. That sensor helps regulate you fuel:air ratio.
