depends on engine/tranny/tires/etc

But in stock form when brand new it was about 18 city/21 hwy (http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymod...Wagoneer.shtml)

I get about 19.5mpg with 235/75 M/T tires, trimmed front facia, and about 200# of tools in the back.

i was driving along, went down a hill and my jeep died. coasting along i turned off the key and turned it back on. nothing at all, put in nuetrul and coasted up a hill and thats where it sat. the batt. meter is showing its flat dead. would charging the batt help or will it be something else that caused it?
reason im asking is, its a a shop, aint gonna be workt on till morrow morn, i aint gonna be here. there saying its something to do with the alt.
any help would be nice. thanks.

Try and jump it see if she starts and then slowly dies. Do you have any other electrical working?

I'm pretty sure most xj alts are the same. As long as the amperage is the same too it's all good. You can do the zj alt upgrade. Just gotta upgrade wires too
